Just FYI it will remain locked on Verizon.

Yeah Verizon Corp has told me that already as their plans but get this,

The Sprint bluetooth phones will be released without the DUN but is "planning" to release rom updates that will unlock the DUN. My ass they are!

The lesson here is that if you get a CDMA bluetooth phone, give up that dream of hitting the net with your PDA or laptop through the phone for that take business from their aircards and tax the primitive data network.

Yeah, exactly. I would tell them, that's good news, then I'm 'planning' on buying your phone, until then I'll go with someone else thanx.

Well you can use the Kyo 7135 as a client and it does support SDIO Bluetooth for that, but it will NOT act as a modem for another client. Now I haven't checked into this enough (DATA costs still SUCK here, and I work for the Phone Company! Just not in Mobility) so I'm not sure if this can be 'hacked', I'll check with a few buddies of mine in mobility.

Well I cannot speak with the other CDMA phones but the Sprint Treo 650 will not have DUN installed, supposedly to be in a future update. I dont work for the phone company but I do work for palmOne and played around with this phone for some time.

Id really get the GSM versions since not only you wont have to deal with no DUN but a better data service.

Really, you prefer GRPS to 1X?

I like GSM due to the ability to swap out SIM cards, but that's about it. The security hole in GSM/GPRS is enough to make me think twice.

Aha, so come to you for Palm hacks!

I've just learned a bunch of hacks for my KYO, I love that aspect. Don't want company logo on phone, hack it, so now the <A HREF="http://members.shaw.ca/gorillagallery/myweb2/grapeape2.jpg" target="_new">GrapeApe character</A> comes up when I powerup/powerdown (had to refresh my hex skillz for that!).

Sometime I'm gonna animate him or see if I can find an animation somewhere (<A HREF="http://www.wcnet.org/~powder77/grapeape.htm" target="_new">this is all sofar</A> )

Anywhoo, as for BLueTooth, I'm really looking forward to seeing the reviews of the 650, but even more so the next Kyocera. I'd love a good phone with a nice ARM or Samsung processor, with a good screen, clamshell design, blue tooth OR(and?) Wifi, and of course the nice new COBALT OS. Oh yes, and non-volatile memory like the new Treo 650. Also the ability to run programs directly off SD or minSD cards like the TREO (Kyo only likes DATA not Apps on SD regardless of speed [I have Panasonic and SanDisk UltraII stuff]) And I DON'T need a DAMN! Now, is that too much to ask from those guys?

Anywhoo, hope you're having an interesting time at work. Personally I think SmartPhones offer a chance at rebirth for the PalmOS, I hate M$, so you guys will have my support until the end (which hopefully won't come at the hands of M$ like so many others). I also prefer the Palm Community even if to get the desktop emulator I had to jump through registration hoops (which fake e-mail addresses and real addresses [not mine]).

Personally for me I really do not care for security on the service since I never perform sensitive work on my phones, what good is the locked service when you can loose your phone or get it stolen.

OS6 (Cobalt) will not be out for a while since Companies like palmOne is waiting for better Mac support but damn its a good OS. I would strongly try out the OS6 emulator if you havent. It will also give PDAs the ability to have WiFi and Bluetooth in sync.

The Treo 650 looks extremely promising and a must get if you are in the market but dont take my word on it. As always give it a few months to look for potential bugs or glitches and for the patches/fixes to come out if needed.

I have no need for a new phone and I don't like the treo form factor, I'm actually just more interested in the progress of the Palm for phone over Micro$murf.

I'll check out the Cobalt emulator on the weekend if I have time after many hourse of HL2 (hopefully).

I can't wait to see the new phones using cobalt. I'm just looking for something like the Kyocera 7135 I have, but wih a 320x240 screen instead, plus the features above (like more powerful processor, 33mhz Dragonball just doesn't give me much power for apps, let alone let me use Palm OS 5.xx
