Hello,

First I would like to say that I am new to THG and that I really have enjoyed the articles and information provided.

I would like to take all my VHS tapes and back them up to DVD. Also,I have a digital video recorder and thought I could just back it up to DVD or CD and play it on DVD players, but no luck.
Here is my system:
2.6 ( 800mhz ) P4
1 gig of PC3200 memory
ATA 133 RAID @ Raid 0 ( Maxtor 80 gig )
Radeon 9500 128 ram video card
Pioneer DVD burner
Adaptec EZCD 5 platinum
What do you recommend for the fastest most reliable manner to change my VHS to DVD? Please give me what you feel is the best cost for dollar spending.

Second, I have a JVC DC 700 digital video recorder. What do you recommend to convert them to DVD and CD to play in a DVD player? I have tried the Microsoft, Divx, EZCD and no luck thus far.
If there are any previous tests on the above questions that will help please forward me the link or title.

As far as your VCR tapes are concerned you will need a capture card. The Radeon AIWs work ok but you already have a vid card. One of the Dazzle boards would likely be your best bet.

What problem are you having with M$/Divx/EZCD? Are you getting a copy that works fine on a computer but does not work on a standalone DVD player? Or are you unable to make a working copy at all? Only the newest players have MPEG4. If you want a disk to play in an older stand alone you need to use MPEG1 or MPEG2. A computer is versitle in that it can play many diffent codes at many different screen resoultions. Even if a computer can't play a video as is you can always download whatever is missing and be able to play almost anything at any size. Stand alone don't have a harddrive full of downloaded codecs so you must feed them a disk that has what ever the player has a code for and it also must be in a resolution that the player can handle and in a format the player can handle.
