Dell's favorite 3D benchmark, 3Dmark05 will score 7600 on a non-overclocked machine, while two cards in SLI can get 11200. Its already in stock in (tigerdirect)and (mwave)
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applica [...] 2&NoMapp=0
http://www.mwave.com/mwave/viewspe [...] ia=AA35630
Those numbers are actually low...it's 7700 on a non-OCed system for non-SLI and like 12200 or so in SLI. Both systems are on an FX-57 (not quite fair as it isn't out till tm or next Tuesday, but w/e). With stock cooling, single card can get up to 9000 and SLI gets just under 14000.
I'm 'waiting' for Wednesday to order...but I've got my CC on my desk, I just have to decide where I want to order from.
Oh yeah, try to put mwave's in your cart....won't work. TD's is weird....since when is BFG called Utobia?
Seems to be a good deal, too...600 for the BFG OC and a PSU with *okay* resale value.

You're going to be a Day-1 7800GTX buyer? Better thoroughly bench it for us.
Personally I'd wait and see what kind of real world performance they offer. I think their yields will be good enough to have prices drop not rise for these cards.

I have an otherwise complete system (4400+ is on order, who knows when that'll get here) essentially waiting for it...not too keen on waiting any extra.
Yields are very good but this first crop seem to be amazing overclockers, don't want to risk getting a second batch one in case they aren't as good (if they're better...w/e, mine'll still be great). I know it'll be better than the 6800U, and I kinda want an nV card for a very certain driver feature in nView for my next system (no more dual monitors...gotta do something about that).
Anyway, when I get my system up and in one piece, I'll definitely bench the crap outta the system.

Why go nVidia before you even know what the Ati card is like?
Hope that's not the case as SLI rigs and overclocked X850XT systems out 3dmark it, never mind when R520 shows up.
3DMarks are unimpressive IMO, but more imortant is the performance we haven't seen. How does it do in NFSU2, Farcry, and SplinterCell3? Allow for 1600x1200 with AA/AF?

I have an otherwise complete system waiting for a card, one that is MUCH better than my current one (and almost no parts other than the HDDs and the sound card can be transfered over). Why the fuck would I wait at least 2 months just to see what ATi has in their stable???
Not only that, but there's feature in the Forceware drivers (absent from Catalysts) that I essentially require.
[pissed off mode]Frankly, I don't even care what ATi has coming...I know the 7800GTX beats 6800U SLI in most GAMES (not 3DMarks), which is good enough for me (not only that, but it's AVAILABLE NOW, OC's GREAT, supports widescreen and multimonitors [this eliminates SLI from the equation]).
Besides, if the X900 or whatever it will be called is THAT great, truly available, etc...I'll sell my damn 7800GTX and buy one of those.
WTF is up with people being so obsessed with seeing the competition's hand? Can't something be good enough as is or can't I be sick of waiting?[/pissed off mode]
Maxtor disgraces the six letters that make Matrox.
Linux is gay (there's nothing it does that Windows can't do and I don't much care about security or any of that shit, I also happen to like the way OSX looks, which is a lot easier to emulate on XP than Linux [in my experience]) and I don't want to buy a second monitor (one of nView's features that I miss from my Ti4400 is the screen partitioning).
Sorry if I offended anyone (and sorry to you wusy...I wish there was just a general reply for threads), but I had an awful night and should be better in the morn (Sampsa releases OCed SLI and single card 3DMark records tomorrow at midnight EST, too...watch XS).

Well I've done it myself, I bought an X600 before the 6600 was released and it turned out that the 6600 is 50 billion times better and costs the same as what I paid for my X600.. so nowadays i just like to cautious
Slight difference in scenarios, if you ask me. I would have gone ahead and gotten an X850XTpe, but I decided to wait for this because I KNEW it would be better. I also know that, frankly, an X850XTpe would be good enough for me, so why not the 7800GTX if they cost nearly the same and I only have to wait a month or so?
Anyway, was the X600 good enough at the time? If so, don't complain, that's how computers are...there's always something around the corner that's better and I'm willing to accept that in two months maybe the 7800GTX won't be the best, but in the meantime, I need a good card for my system, so I might as well get it, put it on my watercooling setup and let the 24pipes (now more efficient, mind you...it's essentially two GO6800Us [12 pipes each, performance 2-5% lower than a regular 6800U], so it's essentially slightly greater than two 6800Us in SLI [SLI takes overhead >8%], minus all that driver crap).
Anyway, if the R520 really is THAT much better...I'll sell my 7800GTX and buy that, forgoing the screen partitioning.

Not that I'm aware of...it does something similar, but not quite what I'm looking for (I want my 2405fpw to act like like two monitors, nView can do that, UltraMon almost does it).

LOL! XGI and S3 have me really scared right now...starting to second guess my purchase.

LOL! Thought you'd get a kick out of that.
Still sad nothing new from Montreal though. Would've been nice to see something 'Pitou'-esque on PCIe.
Yeah, I wasn't sure about ultra mon, but that's an interesting use for it. I've been considering one of those DelL-cds. I'm just one the fence becaus the price of 30+ inch widescreens have come down so much. The only drawback lower resolution, but I just saw a nice 1920x1080 one the other day for $2499, so who knows.
If I see anything in passing I'll let you know. Good luck with the GF7800 purchase. Have a brand or even dealer in mind yet?
The eVGA one seemd like not too bad a price considering that the X800XTPE and original GF6800Us are still selling at those prices in various stores.

Indeed it would have been very nice...they just keep releasing the same things on PCIe, they need a new card to show everyone who's boss.
About UltraMon, they have something similar where you can lock an application to a certain point, and each app can have its own setting...but it wouldn't be the same, I like the flexibility of moving stuff depending where I want my focus to be.
A 30" LCD w/ 1920x1080 would be AMAZING! Is that $2499 US or Canadian? Either way, it's still much better than the Apple 30" pricewise.
Tigerdirect should have the BFG (the one I want...460/1300 right out of the box probably won't help the maximum OC, but it will at least be warranteed for higher clocks [and I'll be guaranteed to not get some crapass memory]) with an Ultra 600W PSU (eBay time for me!) for $600 USD either later today or tomorrow.

I was hoping. They had announced a BIG new release in the spring on PCIe and finally it arrived, oooohh ahhh you added another 64mb to the 650. Whop-dee-freakin'-doo!
Oh well I'll still dream they're #1.
The 1920x1080 was a ~36-38+" just a bit too big,I'm looking for closer to 30-32" so I'm thinking it won't be too far off in time, and it was $2499 Canadian from some e-tailer in Toronto (I was actually surfing foor price matches on an X800XL and Aquagate mini 120). It was some non-usual name though like a company known to make other things (like danby, electrolux or something [kinda like my Chrysler home AC]).
I'll see if I can find it again and I'll post the link (I know you don't do PMs
).
I've seen alot of the Samsungs around but once again they've either been too small or too big. That's why 30" would be just right, 36+ inch widescreen is just too much desktop space, but I do want something to watch HDTV in the bedroom during next year's Winter Olympics (Yeah, Hockey!
)
Yeah BFG's a solid choice, I'm not a fan of TigerDirect, but I've bought more than my fair share of stuff from them, but I prefer to buy in person from their store in Toronto (last X-mas bought the Extrenal LG burner) so I can avoid the mediocre stuff that photographcs well. The Candian version used ot be a company I bought from quite regularly (especially whe I live in T.O.), named MISCO.

Monitor shopping is tough at the extreme high-end....I thought I was going to get an HP L2335, but the prices shot up and the Dell's dropped (in usual fashion), thought it was too good to resist. I'd still prefer the HP, but the price premium was way too high.
I do PMs now...I turned them off about a year ago because I had like 5-6 n00bs asking me to configure a system for them (why ME?!), so I turned it off. Since the whole thing with Mozzartusm (sp?), I've turned them back on.
As for TD, I don't much care for them either...maybe I'll go Best Buy, I really don't know (I still have like 18 hours to decide before I go shopping). Anyway, I really want the BFG for the warranty and the OC (I'll probably just run it at stock mem and crank the core up with my MCW-50, and they have the best mem clocks [side note...the OC gods have been having problems going above 540/1380...which is attainable on water quite easily {heck, 525/1280 is attainable on STOCK cooling!, zero mods}, hope that gets fixed, so does the cold bug]).
Anyway, I'll be gone for the next 6 hours or so, go online for 2, get 10 hours of sleep, and place an order to complete my system--boy am I glad my job hasn't started yet!

I'm also considering eVGA for their stepup program, but I have a feeling the rumored Ultra won't be here in the next 90 days. It's also not worth the extra cash, IMO.

It was a Westinghouse LCD, Freakin' WESTINGHOUSE now makea monitors, I have a damn crock-pot from them !?!
Anywhoo I want at least 1080P for my next 'main' monitor (I've been thinking about a second 19" just cause they're so cheap).
I like the 17" Phillips (1600x1200) but when I move it everything to just one rig, I'm going to keep it only for possible 3rd monitor situation.
I like the HPs, Samsung and Dell LCDs, but @ 24" it can't really do dual duty as a nice sized TV monitor IMO, 30inch minimum for good DVD and TV use. I want something that is 'futureproof', yeah usually and especially in this forum we say nothing's futureproof, however the pace of TV standards development is glacial. IMO 1080P will be the max standard until completely revolutionary display technology comes out.
Sofar I've only seen BIG 37"+ and SMALL 24-", and the most attractive have been the Samsungs, but even @ 24" they're pricey compared to other panels. There's no rush, but it would be nice to find something right by the new fall season.
As for the Step-up program, yeah not worth it. Personally I feel that the 'Ultra' talk is FUD as nV isn't worried about the G70 going up against the R520, it's not meant for that, and ATi doesn't seem to have plans to bring anyting to market until August and the 'full' specs of the R520 are so far ahead no 110nm part can compete IMO, so it's pointless to worry abou it, instead move to a true X-mas refresh not some Ultra-Extreme style hack card for benchies only.
I think you'll be fine with whichever of the GF7800GTXs you find that have all the features you want. Personally I'd always look to see what Gainward has to compare the offerings of other companies. They to me are the nV gold standard of features and such.

Westinghouse, eh? LOL.
Anyway, good luck with your search...it'll be tough to find one *just* perfect, I know I didn't.

From what I've heard on the situation (before people blew it out of proportion, essentially making up the improbable) is this:
7800GTX is for regaining the #1 spot in single card and dual card performance from ATi.
The R520 will outdo it (with 24 pipes due to the major yield problems [I've heard the R520 is on respin 3.1 or something rediculous like that--lots of problems]) in August/September,
then the 7800U, on 90nm (like the RSX, which is IDENTICAL to the GTX, just 550MHz), will compete with that.
Early next year, G80 (likely 7900), a 32 piped version of the 90nm G70 will be released....at around the same time, R580 will be released, which is just a 32 pipe version of the R520.
Maxtor disgraces the six letters that make Matrox.
I suspect, even if yields are even twice as bad as people make them out to be, ATi will launch a 32 pipe R520 simply for the, my e-p3ni$ is just soo SOO much bigger than yours move, especially if they anticipate a 90nm G70 replacement part, which I don't think will compete with the R520 until X-mas.
Like I've said before I think this is going to be staggered launches of availability with a few months in between.
And I don't think that nV's jump to 90nm will be uneventful, but like ATi in the R3xx/RV3xx situation nV will have the advantahe of learning from the other's mistakes/issues.
Personally I'm not interested in either, other than from the technical aspects, something more XL-esque would interest me more from a buying perspective. I think the see-saw won't benifit either company more than the other, but it will create alot of PR hype/buzz, and I'm sure there will be alot of posturing and FUD simply to try and offset the fact that both companies at some point will have no new product when the other company has the best one the street. What happens after the R520 hits the market is what will be most interesting IMO, because I don't see anything coming up against it in the short term. Could be wrong of course.

Have you considered the BenQ 23" LCD? It retails for 1499$ at BeG, and has a whopping 1920*1200 resolution, something I am surprised the HP didn't have, at 23" and for the price.
BTW is it safe to assume a monitor that can output 1600*1200 is one that can support 1080i?

Well I want big enough to enjoy movies from across a fairly big, 23" just won't cut it.
As for the resolution question, full HD resolutions are 1280x720P (usually displayed on 1366x768 to keep aspect ratio and use normal '768' resolution tag) and 1920x1080i (1920x[540+540]) usually displayed on 1920x1200 but possible on letterboxed 1920x1440). 1600x1200 is able to display most of the resolution but you do get some minor interpretive loss due to it not being able to fully reproduce the full frame.
Also rememebr that 1080P has twice the info of 1080i being displayed at any one time, so there are some tricks to display higher interlaces resolutions on a progressive screen, but it's still not the best it could be.

Everything looks alot better in HD. Discovery Channel. Nuff said.
The HP has 1920x1200. In fact, both HPs do (23" ones).
And no, it is not safe to assume that a 1600x1200 monitor can do 1080p or i, there need to 1920 vertical lines for it to truly be 1080(i or p).
