yeah... nin.. and.... TOOL. they were actually approached to do the original doom 3 soundtrack.. did ya know that? but i guess they didn't feel up to it. a mix of nin and adam's long, epic riffs would be the ultimate team for a doom soundtrack

Reply to penus

yes I knew.. I am using the Reznor soundpak for the game ;) But indeed, the mix would be beautiful. Perhaps Marilyn Manson should star as a zombie too, haha :p

If someone lame like manson showed up in the doom movie id have no problems never watching it. They better get Bruce Willis to play the lead role.

Bruce Willis may be a bit too fat and old, but I suppose those armour chards do wonders for people :)

Is it me or there is absolutely no trace of any iD employee in there? Not even John Carmack?

I mean, the guy really holds on to his work, it would surprise me if he doesn't have a role in the production and direction of the movie.

No plot so far, but I would not be surprised if The Rock was indeed the hero in that cast. He would fit IMO, and he doesn't need a lot of acting power to do the Doom guy we all know. Actually he'll never say anything and never be called by his name.

I can't remember which site I was looking at, but The Rock didn't get the starring role for the film. I'll see if I can find it again...

Yeah I saw this a while later after posting. Too bad, he could've likely been good for the job.

<A HREF="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0881631/" target="_new">The new guy</A> though seems apt and does look a bit like the DOOM III hero.

Who knows, hopefully we'll get a scary and action packed movie. Hey, the BFG's gonna star, that's gotta rock. Now make better SFX sounds for the guns than in D3 and we might have a winner!

on that note, i'll point out that every movie in history that was ever based on a video game has sucked most heavily. the games they're based off of are hack and slash.... and so the movies are the same... and low budget, at that... with POOR acting.

heh.. the rock... what a *ock..

i think eric estrada or paul reuben would have been the best for the starring role. could you imagine seinfeld? lmfao

The Rock will be busy starring in FarCry at that time. That would be weird seeing him do both roles.

The Script writer <A HREF="http://www.homelanfed.com/index.php?id=28042" target="_new">speaks out</A> about the changes made to the story.

Quote :

The screenplay I wrote DOES differ in a number of ways from the games. I want to be very honest and forthcoming in saying that, and I know that I won't make any friends amongst the fans of the game in doing so. But it should be mentioned that it was never the goal of anyone involved in this film, from myself and the producers to the studio to the guys at id, to make a direct film adaptation of the game(s). The thought process has always been to create an extension of the Doom universe that will give fans an interesting new take on the themes that they've come to enjoy in the game. Because let's be honest here: as far as a completely immersive and cinematic experience, we were never going to top Doom 3 anyway, and we all knew that. Instead, we have toyed with some elements of the game, and yes, I am pretty much solely responsible for that, since it was my pitch and my screenplay that got made. Let me assure you, though, that the themes and elements that you love about Doom are ALL represented strongly in the film...just with some new twists.

I've found it frustrating that I somehow became the goat for the perceived shortcomings of the film, because (and I say this with no humility whatsoever, because I'm not a humble person), that I am, without a doubt, the greatest ally the Doom fan has had during the entire process of the film being made. I am the only person involved creatively who has ever made any attempt to open discourse with the game's internet fanbase, and I am the only person involved who has continually kept the ideals of the game first and foremost in mind. I very truthfully believe that my unapologetic and hyper-violent script would have been a Doom fan's movie dream come true. However, since my involvement, the film has steadily moved away from the realm of fandom and more toward the realm of traditional Hollywood interests. It's not been ideal, in my opinion, but I did what I could when I could, and I stand by that work.

the movie is going to suck either way... Why? well if it followed the script everyone would complain about how the game was better or what not, and since its not following the script they are just copying resident evil... awful

Well I guess we overreacted about him saying that previously, and I guess his address was fair.

So we'll just have to wait now. Really, my only expectations are obvious and probably reflected everywhere: a scary experience, and the DOOM monsters.

Oh and a BFG9000 somewhere would be nice.

Oh I really hope there's no metal bands involved. Thats a terrible idea for a movie score. If its to be truly scary, you can't have thrash metal going on as it destroys the spooky mood. Remember the score for Resident Evil games, Metal Gear Solid and all the greats? They've traditionally been symphonic or orchestral and it makes them much more impactful. I love metal and my fav band is Dir en Grey, but I think it would ruin a movie like Doom. Look at Mortal Kombat Annhilation and Universal Soldier The Return. Metal soundtracks destroyed those films and rendered them annyoing, tinny and unwatchable.

I agree with Bruce Willis for the lead. The rock is good for the roles hes played but REALLY doesn't fit the roll for Doom. The guy in the books accidently got sucked into that huge mess. The rock is as big as a [-peep-] cyberdemon as it is.

It would be nice to see a WELL DIRECTED, ELEGANT piece of film work made from a game like they did way back when Super Mario Bros was released in 92. Its right up there with The Fifth Element in my book. Maybe I'm old fashioned or just old (21) but I like quality cinema rather than cheap fanservice. This movie is going to probably be another AvP(crap) which is thankfully not related in my mind to the masterful work of the other Aliens franchise.

I know what you mean. You need an appropriate soundtrack. Often perhaps with very little music involved. (or perhaps the DOOM II title screen one, short and sweet hehe!)
Those high pitched sound effects depicting a disgusting or horrifying figure would do the thing just fine IMO.

Weird though, for me The Rock would've worked well as the hero. Well, in looks at least, if you compare him to the D3 one.
Otherwise it's hard to find one looking like the DOOM I and II's.

I wouldn't be surprised. I checked out Andrzej Bartkowiak's catalog and he has definitely made some crappy movies. He's also made some decent ones, but I'm not counting on Doom being one of them. Film adaptations of videogames aren't exactly the greatest films out there.
