Is it possible to upgrade a USB 1.1 port to USB 2.0 port or
USB 1.1 to a FIREWIRE with either an external piece
hardware or software solution in a Windows platform
LAPTOP system so a Windows based IPOD can be used at
the faster USB 2.0 speed or with a firewire?? If so,
what might that solution be?

Your help would be greatly appreciated ASAP....

It might be possible with PCMCIA card

Thanks for the information. I myself thought the same. Since posting this, I have found out the Apple makes a firewire PCMCIA card for a windows based OS laptop. Please feel free to pass this info on to anyone else who might have the same question/issue.
