I configured my VersaMail incoming and outgoing mail servers identical
to my desktop computer,

pop.prodigy.yahoo.com

and

smtp.prodigy.yahoo.com

respectively.

Incoming mail works fine. But when I try to send mail, I get "Error 502:
command not implemented."

On my desktop computer the outgoing mail server port number is blank.
VersaMail requires an outgoing mail server port number between 1 and
32767. I have the default port number 25 set.

"Use Secure Connection (SSL)" is UNchecked.
"Use authentication (ESMTP)" is checked.

I connect to the internet via T-Mobile at Starbucks.

Any ideas? Please cc: replies to rjmatter@prodigy.net.

Thanks!

I might have found the solution to my problem.

According to Prodigy help at
http://help.sbcglobal.net/article.php?item=4640,

"As announced in the September 2004 Member newsletters, SBCIS began
filtering direct outgoing email connections using Port 25 (SMTP) to
non-SBCIS/Yahoo mail servers from Members using dynamic DSL and Dialup
connections. Port 25 filters are widely used by many ISPs to combat junk
email and spam from mis-configured and virus-infected computers...
Contact your mail hosting provider for information about using Port 587
for sending authenticated outgoing email. Since December 1998, Port 587
has been the Internet standard (RFC2476) port for authenticated email
submission for mail clients and is supported by most major mail hosting
providers."

I have changed my VersaMail outgoing mail server port to 587 from the
default 25 and will try that later today when I can get to a wifi
hotspot. It seems peculiar VersaMail would use the default port number
of 25 if that port number is widely blocked.

Well that was the problem. I sucessfully sent e-mail after changing the
VersaMail outgoing mail server port no. to 587 from the default port no. 25.
