We are a graphics card forum, not everything we do must be catered and dumbed down for NOOBS although the Buyer's Guide helps with that. What I have envisioned so far is not just a buyer's guide, but an entire THGC Graphic Card Forum website, which would totally rox!

it's going to be technical and in-depth. Something that really explains the fundamentals of modern graphics.

sound like that technical FAQ concept i had a while ago~ but noone wanted to contribute -_-
the buying guide was just to somewhat decrease noob posts, FAQs are not in-depth, basically they answer critical questions. If you want to have a 5 pg essay on the history of graphic starting from the first computer, i dont think it would be stuff to post on a forum.
What i had it mind was things like

1. What is the AGP 8X? what's the difference between AGP4x and AGP 8x?

2. What are Pixel Shaders? what are their use?

and so on

then we have a mini buyer's guide that get update constantly with infomation about each card's speed, performance, brand bundles, personal experience

COMPRENDO?

i had big plans, except no one helps out -_- If GW u're willing to contribute, then we can discuss the detail of this project. This wont be Version 2 of buyer's guide it would be

THGC'S GRAPHIC CARD FAQ

Of course i will be in charge of this, after i get my R9600pro that is~~CIAO~

Why do you demand to be in charge of the project?

If you want a buyers guide that is stupid, and resembles something that anyone could learn after Google'ing for a couple of hours

In many respects, the Anandtech weekly/monthly Buyer's Guide probably gets the job done well enough, but I also like what he have going on up here too.

However, I'm with GeneticWeapon on making the website mostly in-depth and technical, meanwhile having a few basic resources available for the on-slaught of n00bs out there. (I'm not talking about Spitfire's thread BTW, I'm talking about an INDEPENDENT WEBPAGE, perhaps linked through the Guide or change the name of the Guide to Resource center and have an alternate website that contain the files that we provide links for at THGC.

About the "n00bs" as CS put it, I beleive many of them actually <i>want</i> to become more technical but don't know where to start. That's how I was when I started reading Tom's Hardware Guide Articles (and then later Anandtech)

I've received PMs from both of you about this, and it been difficult for me to decide, because I don't want to make enemies here. I don't think anyone should "be incharge" and control the whole operation like a Nazi. However, I do beleive in the idea of a sort of elected "Manager" that just basically oversees that things get done more than anything. The content of the site should not be the manager's decision but the graphics community's vote as a whole should determine key decisions. I can see several that would make a good manager possibly.

First off, I was thinking Eden, because he's a workable, responsible feller that I think has alot of good leadership skills and is a good communicator and his personality seems like he is a good one for resolving disputes (Even though he is a whino

I was also thinking GeneticWeapon, while he can definitely be rough & gruff at times, I have to admit, that his persistence on getting things done can be a good thing. A couple times this week, he's asked me if I've made progress, & when I answered basically "no" I felt pressured, which can be a potentially good thing. Also, his technical knowledge is one of the THGC's greatest Graphics Card-wise, which could be very helpful when critiquing progress.

Who else do y'all think would be a good manager? I might even do it if y'all think I should.

And like I said, whoever gets the manger position/if there is a manager, its not to be in charge or boost your social rank at THGC, its to fulfill a responsibility, just like the others working on individual projects.

Why? cause i'm the one that actually got something done? it might be crappy but it always better to DO then to SAY!

I saw ur Pixel shader stuff GW, like i said, ur idea is good but i rather make something that can explain things rather than tell them the whole concept -_-

Also GW, are u telling me u didn't learn all that knowledge through hours of googleing?

I wouldn't take the position on this one, alas. I simply have little time to contribute. I'd likely be able in Xmas, but still, I don't want to get in the way. You can bet on one thing though, I am extremely picky, so I can find the near-perfect kind of text. Hence I can be a good quality control person. Leadership-wise, I do tend to follow others and not forget, which can be good, but not when you're lazy. In this case I'm just too busy to think about it.

Consider GW, very little oppose him  .

It's getting close to finished YEAH!!! There will be some empty spots, etc., but I think I can get the basically the meat of this chart to Spitfire tonight or tommorrow, <b><font color=purple>w00t!!!!</b></font color=purple>

So when you take a Quality Control position, you're basically saying you'll be one of our "Editors" right? You'd do nicely there too  .

So who else thinks we should let GW, take project manager postion? Or should it be spitfire, me, or someone else?

I think we also need to give credit where credit is due: Had it not been for Coolsquirtle posting that "Buyer's Guide for NOOBBS" thread, we wouldn't be headed in the direction that we are today. Even though there were faults in the guide, it served its purpose acceptably. What's really important, is that it set off a spark that would have never existed. I hope y'all agree that CS deserves the credit for atleast getting things started. I'm not suggesting that he "should be in charge", far from it, but he deserves recognition for the initialization of the whole deal, and some sort of spot on the project staff.

GW, are you willing to take the spot as project manager? You are clearly the most knowledgeable member we have in this community, but if you feel your efforts are better towards some other area, plz post it in this thread.

I thought you learned everything from those nice helpful blurbs on the back of the boxes the cards came in while hanging out at Best Buy.

I like to hang out in the back of Pron stores and read Weird.. err, Wired!

I'd love to help (I was really intent on it before) but seriously work and school kill most of my time. At least just this part I can do while watching TV (like this Hour has 22 minutes right now, favorite bit today: <i>'Wanna sign my sweet Canadian Ass?'</i> )

If this goes to December, I'll contribute what I can, especially the big words like the Matrox Paraphernalia.
