I have a problem with the sound volume on my p.c.. There is sound but it is
hardly audible (and I am not deaf).
- this applies to all the sounds (the software beeps that I don't need as
well as the music from c.d. or internet that I like to hear)
- this applies to all programmes (i.e. Real Player as well as Windows Media
Player, MS Office, etc.)
- in Volume Control I tested all possible combinations but the volume varies
from zero to hardly audible (but it 'works': mute gives no sound, 100% open
the 'loudest' sound)
- reinstalling my sound card driver (sis 7012) did not change anything
- there is no problem indicated in any place (driver functions properly, etc.)
- today's virus and spyware scans did not not give any problems

I'm working with windows XP professional 5.1.2600
Processor AMD Athlon (tm) XP 1800+
Audio devices:
Sis 7012 Wave v5.5 (wave input, wave output)
MPU-401 v5.5 (Mid input, Mid input)
Microsoft GS Wavetable SW synth v5.5 (Mid output)
Sis 7012 Wave v5.5 (Mixer)

Can someone help me?
Thanks,
Frank

Some additional checks.
Do your speakers require external power and its that power available?
Is the speaker jack plugged all the way in?
Have you tried another set of speakers?

Has it ever had good sound? You might need amplified speakers.

Check your MASTER control ON the speakers.

Bud/Doug,

Thank you! Using amplified speakers indeed solves the problem (partly at
least: I still need to find a way to get proper sound in my earphones)

Thanks,
Frank
