Flame well I'm thinking about doing more MAYA come winter (on the days I can't ski and there's nothing on, and all of y'all are borin me ). My video editing and movie making sorta came to a halt over the summer due to alot of activity. We'll see.

I still think the R9000 does things just fine for now and the R9600P will be ok for later. I'd like A Quadro or FireGL, but decided I really don't need one, as much as it would be 'nice'.

I don't understand why this card is getting as much attention as it is getting now. All it is is a rearranged 9800 Pro clocked a bit higher, not even a lot higher, but just a little higher. The clock speeds don't even come out to nice even numbers (though that doesn't matter its more of presentability.)
I do agree with one thing ATI is doing, they are marketing it as the 9800 XT so as no one will buy it hoping it will be a lot better than it's brother the 9800 Pro. I remember the fiasco with the 8500, 9000, 9100 and 9200 which I am still confused about now.

Really depends how complex things are gonna get with you. If you're gonna do very complex things, a standard gaming card will do. Some time before Maya had issues with ga,ming cards from Ati...dunno if that's fixed.

lol, yeah, forgot that the XT got pretty hot, i forget little details like that when i read something...anyway, good luck with the pro, wish i could get one to replace my Ti4200 (sure, it's fast enough for UT2003 and the other games i play, but i've learned to hate nVidia--a lot).

I'm relatively unimpressed with the limited performance gain of the 9800XT. Considering that the good 'ol 9700 has a whole year of age on its name with somewhat similar performance, the 9800 XT really isn't all that Groundbreaking. I'd expect a bigger improvement after a whole year, but I guess there is really no good reason to blame ATi considering there is no one currently pushing them to be more competive than they already are. Heck, I owned a bussiness and no one could outclass my product, I would not have as much of a reason to push new technology either. I would milk a cash cow for all that it's worth. Well maybe things will get interesting this christmas with the R420 & NV40, maybe the Volari cards too!

Yeah, it's not a major diff./improvement. But it is something.

It's partially a PR move IMO. Always launching something. I think it's also a release to do things like take the FX5900s out of Alienware and other 'gaming' maker's rigs.

The distance the XT puts between it and the non-pro does give it a bit more of an advantage, but it's really all about the 'GOTTA BE #1' market really. I'm more interested in the R9600XT and what its OC range is and the Catlyst 3.8 driver options (like Overdrive) that are likely bundled with the cards.

I think it's really what most of us came to expect in the last few days/weeks.

I'd still buy one if I was building a gaming system from scratch to dominate others with top-end rigs. But since most of my friends are still running 1-2 years old hardware I have no motivation, especially since the R9600P handles everything I throw at it (except Mozilla 1.5b BETA! )

I think these reviews also give more and more people the opportunity to see the write-ups about nV's woes. Which may also have been part of the point.

Hey if Coolsquirtle who is Taiwanese (or some other forum user) comes out and says he is not sexually attracted white women, I would <b>NOT</b> find that offensive by any stretch of the imagination. This is not to say that this is his preferences, that was just a quick hypothetical example that I could pull from the top of my head.

Each individual has their own racial preferences that they look for in mates. My prefernece of Asian/Pacific/Latin American women is actually frowned upon by my Mom even though my Dad has no prob with it. Its just each individual's preference. I have no problems with people who prefer not to mix either. I have friends from many races, and just because some of my friends aren't physically attracted to women of my race doesn't mean I don't like those persons.

Public Forums wouldn't be public if we couldn't air our opinions and preferences...they'd be private forums. And this forum is exactly the place for anything anyone wants to talk about. We try and remind those that go off topic to come back to topic...but it's going to happen. You need to learn how to deal with opinions and preferences. There was nothing either racist nor sexist about any comment they made. In order to be either (racist or sexist), the person making the comment must be discriminatory and/or abusive toward race/sex. Notice that these comments are neither. Would it have offended you less if it were something like, "Polish women are kinda ugly...and their teeth are messed up" or "Korean chicks have weird looking faces" or something of that nature? Most likely this wouldn't have offended you as much because you're hopped up on the metaphorical, discrimenatory steriods that society has shot you up with.

You spoke of learning and teaching. Get out your pen and paper and take notes...you are about to learn something. There is something called an opinion. It is someone's personal idea about something. Personally I do not find Black women attractive. Does this make me a racist? Nay, it does not. According to you it does...but this comment is NOT offensive to anyone. It is a personal opinion. Is it degrading women? No. To be sexist, I'd have to discriminate against women AS A WHOLE.

Another thing you forget is that the women they are talking about PUT THEMSELVES UP FOR REVIEW by choosing to be in the public eye. They are <b>moviestars</b> and that means that their lives will be public. Period. This means that comments will be made about what they wear and how they look. By doing this; choosing the profession they are in, they are inviting critique. Critique is what is given here. So someone doesn't like black women? That's a personal preference and an opinion....it does not attack black people as a race and it doesn't attack women either...they didn't say they hated all women did they? You need to learn what you are talking about before you talk about it.

If you still don't know the difference between a personal preference (without abusive language as in our case) as opposed to racism...you need to change yourself to an Irish Mexican like me...and then move to the middle of the United States. Go to school in a small town where there are only caucasian kids. Make sure your last name sounds mexican too...something like...Martinez....wait..that's mine, you can't use that one. TKS, I must say that was an <b>exceptional</b> post. You nailed several points right on the head. However, this dude does not deserve flaming, yet at least. It is completely natural for people to come to a forum misinformed. It happens all the time and so many of today's people are misinformed It won't be beneficial to jump on this guy and attack him. Afterall, he did say that he wasn't trying to cause a fight or any probs (or something like that. So, we should definitely cut this guy some slack and see how he accepts are logic on the situation. If he accepts it, Excellent. If he doesn't and ends up flaming us like barbequed chicken... well he'll deserve any flames he gets at that point.

Catalyst 3.8 overdrive drivers to be released october 8th.
These should be bundled with XT cards. The ability to regular users to overclock automatically without voiding warranty is huge. We take it all for granted, because it's not tough to mod a card and overclock it with third party drivers. The new XT line will have a variable fan and 3.8 drivers built-in for overclockers. This is not a big deal with the 9800 XT but will be huge on the 9600XT.

I cant see overclocking becomming completely mainstream.

Consider the following circumstance:
Dad gets new video card for kids
Kids read a bit aobut overclocking.
Kids try some nieve overclocking, setting the speeds to insane levels and burning out the card.

Unless the OC levels are limited to "safe" levels.

I dont like the idea of the audible fan... the heatsink also looks of a less than optimal design. Hopefully retail versions are better equipped.

As my sapphire R9800pro can do at least 429Mhz core with a stock aluminium cooler im suprised they didnt do better with the design.
