Looking for tools mentioned above to manage the collection of MP3 and
CDs. Can recommend some free MP3 tools you're using?

I use CDex to convert my CDs to MP3s (using LAME with the
alt-preset-standard setting) and then if I need to tweak any MP3 tags I use
the very flexible MP3Tag both are freeware. The only (slight) downside with
CDex is that it gets its CDDB info from FreeDB instead of gracenote which
often seems to lag slightly so if you regularly get CDs as soon as they're
released and want to rip them that day you might want to try something else.
I find CDex is excellent at ripping various artists CDs as it will pick the
bones out of any CDDB listing.

.... of course if you're ripping your collection with a view to mainly
putting it on a Palm you might want to consider eshewing MP3s in favout of
OGGs to squeeze as much as possible into a small amount of memory.

You may be able to just concatenate the mp3s; I remember it working at
one time; dunno if it does any more.

I use Free CD Ripper. Has worked fine with no problems for a few years
now.

I know some freeware programs, such as Mp3 Clipper and Joiner to split and join mp3 files, Audacity, Meda MP3 Joiner to join mp3 files. But as for me, this programs have many disadvantages. That's why I prefer paid programs Visual MP3 Splitter & Joiner. I use the tool for more than a year.
