The X-Box has a P3 chip. I Believe its a 733 MHz.

And Microsoft is NOT evil damnit!!!
I get so sick and tired of hearing people moan and complain about microsoft and how they suck.

I admit some of there products have sucked (WindowsMe) but some of there products I think are GREAT. I love win2k, it is a very good OS. Microsoft takes heat for every hardware problem. If something crashes it is "Windows Sucking" and not the [-peep-] drivers writen by god knows who in a small office building in The Philipines (spelling?) There are SO many factors in making an OS that an occational bug may come up. Big deal. I feel like microsoft does one hell of a job posting patches and admiting to flaws in there code and striving to get them fixed. Once again its their fault when IT techs are to lazy to update a security patch that fixes a vunerability in its ISS services. Its "Windows Sucking" again.

MS is a monopoly because they make decent products. I love linux, I use linux, fact is though MS has much better support and I can do alot more with my win2k box than I can my linux box. It took me a week to find drivers some one wrote for my sound card in linux. Lets face it that is not practical for the everyday common user. MS charges 500$ for office? SO what? I agree 500 bucks is crazy for software, but Adobe charges the same for photoshop? Does that mean adobe is evil too? And MS has lower cost suite like MS Works for the home user. Office is targeted for cooporate use. To coorporations 500 pucts is chump change. You'll be able to do 90% of what ever simple at home tasks with MS Works which costs about 80 bucks. Its like getting a big teraflop number crunching multi processor system to sit at home and surf the web with and bitching that they PC vender charged to much for your system. I got my copy of Windows 2000 for about 100 bucks. OEM. Why is it so bad to have to pay for a operating system? I mean as said before IT MAKES YOUR COMPUTER WORK! It is a critical part of a system. Should we complain that we have to pay for processors? Pay for graphics cards? They should all be free right? I don't think companies are going to strive for improvements and to make good software/hardware if they don't turn a profit. They have to put food on thier table to. And don't start moaning about them being rich, cause there is 1000 other ways besides writing software for MS to get rich in America. If you don't like it move to cuba and take a dose of communism.

If other companies would release prducts on the same level as microsoft, microsoft would lose market share! Just look at Intel/AMD. Intel use to be a huge monopoly, and some what still is today, but AMD is doing one hell of a job taking those George Washington's from Intels Wallet. Why? Because AMD is making better products than intel right now! (arguable?) Very simple. Its not like everyone is buying MS cause thier products are shitty. I remember when Netscape was the greatest! I loved it back in the 3.0 days. Internet Explorer was a big crock. But then IE4 came out and I was amazed with the new features. Netscape's new version on the other hand I didn't like as much. So, I switched, just like I switched from Intel to AMD.

Don't hate on a company and point fingers cause they are on top. MS is not perfect by any means but can you show me one company in any field that is?

BTW, back to on topic. I plan to get a game cube for zelda, and metroid. Those games rule. And everything I have heard about the x-box from friends has been positive.

First off, I agree, I like m$ and windows xp is the best os I have ever used.

Secondly.

"The first unit shows the heatsink attached with a nearby fan to pull a good bit of airflow over the CPU cooler. The second pic is of course the CPU itself that is attached to the mainboard. 733MHz with 128KB of L2 cache would suggest a mobile Celeron chip running at 133MHz bus."

Mobile celeron, NOT p3. Although they have called it a p3 variant....which I suppose is acceptable, since it has half the cache but runs at 133fsb, its as close to a celeron as it is to a p3.(133fsb vs half cache). But deffinatly not a p3.

The xbox will appeal to computer owneers, the majority of this forum, but I assure you, the console fans will be the least likely to buy it, they see it as a watered down pc, which it is. Since it is a console war, and not a pc war, the console owners may have the final say.

Another thing which the xbox does not have and the ps2 does not have are must have EXCLUSIVE titles. Most of the titles for the xbox will be on the other systems and pcs too, and the same can be said for the pc. The gamecube however will have a HUGE first party library which is exclusive to the gamecube. If one had to choose a single console to purchase the gamecube would be the best choice for the most playable games that you cant get elsewhere. People with a good pc(1ghz with gf3 or radeon 8500) shouldnt buy an xbox, because most of the xbox games will most likely be ported to your good pc and run faster when they get there in due time.

I wasn't aware of the 128 cache, but I have read it everywhere as a pentium 3. Either ways with a GF3 like GPU you don't need as much proccesor power. From what I hear the xbox renders beautifully.

I do agree with you though that you can get the same out of a nicely equiped PC.

where did that come from? talk about a random post?

for your information i work in the IT field and i know all about it!

as for college. I hate the IT job. It's like the lowest of the low when it comes to the computer industry. It's the grunts of the computer world. Ya grunts make a lot of money too. Aiming for something more; the point of college. Lookin at 3d animation as a possible choice.

right, in my field of computer science where we make the hardware and software for you to use, learning about the computer is very important in my field!

Like the concept of cache, do you really understand how it works and why it makes your computer run faster?

Do you understand the various memory fetch algorithms? Direct mapping, set associative and fully associative?
DO you know why we even need virtual memory?

What about CAS and RAS do you even know what it is?

What about pipelining, what is that?

How are these chips made? Which in my class for a lab we are going to make a chip. pretty sweet, we have our own IBM lab.

And for programing do you know the differences between functional, logical and oop languages and how one type is more beneficial then the other?

What about the operating system? How does that work?

There is a fine line between you folks the "user" and us folks the "scientist". And that is understanding these concepts directly or indirectly related to the computer. Such as software algorithms and hardware algorithms and how they work and interact with each other. It's not magic.

All this stuff is very important in my field and for you to spread your rhetoric and say i don't know anything is very rude and uncalled for! And yes you do need to take a class to learn what a computer is. As far as i'm concerned you have no clue what a computer is. It's more then just 1's and 0's. It's more then just the cpu and video cards.

<b>It's a artistic philosophical masterpiece. </b>

don't believe me? Look at the history and the amount of work and thought put into the concept of a computer. At first being nothing more then an abstraction and later carried through to being concrete.

You people need a some serious therapy! think about it! you are all argueing to me about what i have no idea instead of talking about the gamecube and other consoles!

this is just jibberish nonsense. I think you folks need a dayoff i swear.

I work and go to college. It's no kids play!

you are probably the only one that thought zelda sucked. Everyone i know and i do mean 50+ people in person loved zelda.

But no zelda can beat the first zelda for the original nintendo!

microsoft does suck i can't believe i'm hearing this. Unix is by far a much superior OS then windows can ever dream of being. It's just a matter of making Linux (based on the idea of Unix) more of a user operating system. Profesionals vs users.

um it's only a 733mhz chip i wouldn't bet my money on it that it can outperform a athlon 1.53ghz with the equivalent card from the xbox dude.

Yeah UNIX and Linix is great and all, but your not gonna get any real progress depending upon random people to develope for it. If you wanna base an OS on it its going to have to take a company thats charging cash to develope for it and to get OEM's hyped enough to make drivers for thier hardware. I mean I bought my red hat linux for like 3 bucks. I can't imagine how red hat profits at all.

Also its hard enough to explain Windows to common people that aren't familiar with computers. I couldn't imagine explain to them how to compile drivers into the linux kernal and what exactly a "disk druid" is. Once linux starts under taking more user friendly features more bugs are gonna pop up. Its a trade off and takes time to work out, and I think MS is doing a good job. I know 2k is super stable.

You got a point (first one in this whole discussion here).
Linux needs to be organized and what should be done is that redhat, mandrake and all these linux companies should merge together and make a superior OS and this way we have compatition and MS can't charge as much as they are. Right now linux is just all over the place and confuses the user.
Where windows is windows no confusion.

lol disk druid is awsome.

ya 2k is nice, however i have managed to break it! it crashes on me all the time. lol!

First off, skater. You can be god of the industry, but if you keep insulting and talking down to people like that you will never get any respect in this forum, and will quickly be branded a troll.

Secondly,
http://www.allrpg.com/games/zeldag [...] ges/21.jpg
http://www.allrpg.com/games/zeldag [...] ges/27.jpg

heres the page they are from, ignore the first 8, those are from the gamecube tech demo, and are NOT the new zelda game images.

<A HREF="http://www.allrpg.com/games/zeldagamecube/images/images.php" target="_new">http://www.allrpg.com/games/zeldagamecube/images/images.php</A>

Now if you look hardenough, you can find a MOVIE, which shows those images in action.(those are all screen captures of the demo movie) I have seen the movie, and the game is very cartoony. Amazing graphics, but NOT what I envision zelda to look like.

Is there anything else I can help you with sir?

I loved the GBC Zeldas, but never had fun with the N64 ones...
Bugaloo and Peteb have had the best backed arguments here, and I agree with them. MS should not be hated cuz it went to the market. If it went it's cuz they knew what they were doing, and the fact is, I have never seen this much bravery and determination to get it in. First of all it has quite a bad reputation for many, then the fact that people see it as owning too much, yet those guys went on, made billions of dollars gone for adds and marketting and kept till it was released, even though we know it may be a bad thing! It turns out rather better than expected and even then they are ready to take on the heat! Trully amazing, and personally I would never have done this.

Yes Nintendo makes the games that are fun and partying, and I can easily go to my friend's house for one if he has a GC, but I wouldn't own one. Xbox has a good future and Halo is already showing alot. Although I do want to play FF10 on PS2, but can't pay... snif.
