Is it a big difference in performance between ati's 9000 and 9600 and is Nvidia's FX GO cards any good?

The nVidia GeForce FX Go will outperform a Mobility Radeon 9000/9200 (M9), but not a Mobility Radeon 9600 (M10). And there is quite a substantial difference between the performance of the M9 and the M10. In DirectX 8 based games, the M10 is 30% faster, in DX9 games, the M10 is 300-400% faster.

I wish I could have gotten my PC with the mobile ATI 9600...eh I just hope NVIDIA pulls a driver miriacle to get the 5600 go to perform better

not 100% sure, but you cant just go to nvidia and upgrade ur laptop graphics card with a simple detonator driver. i think mobile graphic cards arent supported by nvidia, which is the same case with ati. you have to go to ur laptop manufacturers site to get a graphic card upgrade, and if you do find one, youre lucky.

Detonator FX 50 is coming. I'm trusting nVidia with this driver since there's a possibility this driver 5.xx version will also be used in the NV40 generation of nvidia GPU's.

Notebook Graphics drivers are the same as their desktop counterparts, however they have been modified for 'compatiability' by the notebook manufacturers. If you are desparate, you can most often just use the standard drivers from nVidia or ATI.

If not, there is never a shortage of people willing to hack the standard drivers to 'support' your notebook (usually a line or two of code).

The whole which card is better and driver support is one of the reasons I'm glad I did get an AW, even if I can't use the generic Det./Cat. I will be able to upgrade.
