Since installing last Security Rollup for Windows 2000 and Last Security
Updates for Windows XP SP2, our computers have started logging system errors
in the event logs.

These errors all reference the "PlugPlay Manager" with "Event ID: 256"

On the Windows 2000 systems the HP DVDRW/CDRW drives mysteriously disappear
as a dialog box pops up on screen alerting that a "Removable Device" has been
unplugged improperly and is no longer available.
On the Windows XP systems similar errors occur.

These errors occur whenever the systems return from "Standby or Hibernate."

All drives are internal drives, the drive controller is functioning
properly, the odds of every DVD/CD drive on 5 desktops and 3 brand new
laptops is extremely remote.

After rolling-back the OS on 1 XP SP2 laptop to the "Out-of-Box" state, the
problem went away. Testing after each update revealed that "Re-installing the
last update re-introduced the same errors."

Anyone else having this same issue?
