Hello - It would appear that the Palm Tungsten E has been out for one year
now. This model is around the price/feature set that I need (I'm upgrading
from an old Palm V), but I'm hesitant to get the Tungsten E if it will soon
be displaced. Any one have any insight into what will be replacing this
model (and when??)?? Thanks in advance..

If anything, the product development cycle from PalmOne is not linear.

That is, there is no direct substitute.

Look at what's on the market and decide for yourself. You can also get a
remanufactured, open box, or refurbished Tungsten E from www.palmone.com
or www.overstock.com at a lower price if you want to play it safe.

In terms of appearance and construction, the new Tungsten T5 is the
replacement for the Tungsten E. See for yourself, there are pictures
on the web. In terms of features and performance, the T5 could be
reasonably described as a "Tungsten E2" as well.

Palm is marketing the T5 as a successor to the T3, and is pricing it
accordingly. I don't buy it.

Getting back to your question, I believe that the existence of the
so-called T5 will make it difficult for Palm to market a successor to
the Tungsten E. Don't hold your breath.

I apply this thought process to any "fast paced" tech item purchase
(computers, TVs, digital cameras, PDAs, etc.): Does it do what I want
it to do? Does the price seem reasonable? If yes to both then buy it
and don't look back. Trying to always have the latest and greatest is a
sure way to always be dissatisfied.
