My PC and Base are approximately 30 feet from each other
and I cannot get a good signal. All firmware is updated
and I tried every channel. My signal strength shows very
low and the fastest I ever see is 24 Mbps, then it drops
to 1 to 2 and back up. I did all MS trouble-shooting
steps too. There are no brick, steel or kryptonite walls
in the way. Any ideas or suggestions before I return this
stuff? I am using the MS usb G adapter on the PC side and
my base station is set to 54G fastest.

Thanks in advance.

How many wall does the signal have to go through?

Does it have to go up one or more floors?

Does it have to go through old lap & spackle walls or regular drywall?

Do any of your walls have lead paint?

Do you have any other 2.4 Ghz equipment? (Please note that several 5.8
Ghz phones also use the 2.4 Ghz frequency.)

It is 1 foor and 2 walls with drywall. New house with no
lead paint. Have other 2.4 Ghz equip, that is why I tried
all channels. I thought that would solve any conflicts. I
have a microsoft wireless mouse and keyboard, one would
think they would be the last to conflict. But you ever
know.

Thanks,

Andy Z

You might try turning off all of the other 2.4 Ghz equipment. This
means unplug the phones basestation & remove the battery from it (if it
has one) & the battery from the phone (They do "chat" to each other even
when you are not using them). Then try again, If it works then it is
the phones that are blocking you. The reason I mention this is because
the 802.11b & 802.11g specification by IEEE has the maximum output at
only 1 Watt while most cordless phones have 2-3 digits on the number of
Wattage fort the output.

Tried unplugging every 2.4 Ghz device in the house with
still no success. My old 802.11b network was steady and
every device was in the same location.

Ok, this is odd. I am sitting on my laptop 5 feet from
the MN-700 using the MN-710 USB adapter. I am getting
strong signal strength but only connected at 24 MBS. It
spikes to 54 MBS sporadically. There are NO 2.4 Ghz
devices located here.

I'm not sure then. Maybe someone else has another idea.

when I find a solution.

USB 1.0/1.1 or 2.0 ? If not a 2.0 port, I could see why a "b" device
would perform as advertised but a g device would not.
