Hello I'm from Germany and there are no reviews available to this date because the above mentioned Models are new with us here in Germany So I'd like to ask those of you who had the chance to allready purchase one of the two and test it.
How are the monitors regarding things like wether there are lightish/bright areas on the edges and corners of the display itself. How is the stand (wobbly?). Does what you see depend much on where you sit (in other words, is the 170degree/160degree (horizontal/vertical) really as stated in the specs). How did you come out with the sensor/touch-"knobs"? can the Ports on the backside easily be attained?

I could get the LG for 219,-EUR and the Samsung for 199,-EUR (the other week the chief of the market said I could get it for 179,-EUR, if I waited till it is advertised).

Here are the specs:
LG Electronics Flatron W2453V
Brightness: 300cd/m2, contrast: 50000:1, reactiontime: 2ms, viewingangle: 170/160, Panel: TN Film, swivel, VESA Plug and Play: DDCCI, supports HDCP, easy formatchange from 4:3 to 16:9, HDMI, VGA , DVI, D-Sub, headphonejack, without DVI-cable, Power consumption: 42W (on), 1W (standby)

Samsung SyncMaster 2494SW
brightness: 300cd/m2, contrast: 50000:1, reactiontime: 5ms, viewingangle: 170/160, Panel: TN Film, supports HDCP, DVI,VGA, D-Sub, Power consumption: 44W (on), 1W (standby), MultiScreen Software, stand: Standard/Tiltfunktion/Swivelfunktion, VESA Plug and Play: DDC2B, with DVI-Cable.

I want to use it mainly as monitor doing officework and Logic Pro (where I would have to see several audiotracks under one another, which is the actuall reason why I went for new monitor). I would also watch movies from DVD (don't have Blueray yet) from time to time, but not mainly, still have an old TV, that does good. I would play fast games only once a year you could say.

As last option I found the LG W2442PA:
brightness: 300cd/m2, contrast: 10000:1, reaction: 2ms, viewingangle: 170/160, panel: TN Film, adjustable in hight, pivot, swivel, power consumption: 32W (on), 1W (standby), VGA, DVI, HDMI, speakers, (no sensor-"knobs", which I don't know wehter it is really a minus)
I was told it would come for 249,-EUR, I can't believe this in respect to the W2453V, so I'm still waiting for an answer from another seller I contacted via email.
A very small plus would maybe be, that it is silve rand would fit to my Apple PowerMac G5. But of course I know one should not buy a monitor because of its style, huh?

At the beginnig of my search I aimed to not pay more than 200,-EUR. As far as the first LG would cost only 20,-EUR more for better features I tumbled in my opinion. But then there is the hard one, what to do, if the Samsung would really cost 179,-EUR, which is 50,-EUR difference and makes the Samsung really worth considering, I think...

See my problem?

I read some bad comments about Samsung being hesitant with support, when you have problems. (I wrote 2 emails regarding questions to a monitor and got no answer and this doesn't even belong to the support issue, while I got answers from LG to every single question within 24h).

Hello, I wanted to edit this thing, in order to get it shorter, but the system keeps saying "you are not allowed to edit/delete this thread", why is that?

Well, I suggest the Samsung (though I'm a Samsung fanboy, be warned).

Honestly, get the Samsung because it's the cheapest, and they're all the same (you won't notice a difference).
The only deciding factor I think is just whether or not you want to use a HDMI cable instead of a DVI and the crappy integrated speakers on the other two.

On the other hand, I recommend LG, just because they have the best motto.
Life's good. I quite agree.

Haha, that's good! :-)

Thank you for your response. As far as you are a Samsung fanboy, may I ask, if you had ever had problems with their support? I mailed 3 times to them and they didn't answer once. Someone in a german review to the 2494HM said, he had them on the phone for garantee/warranty reasons and he was told "friendly" that warranty was voluntary (which is not true, because there is a law passed by the european court, saying every manufacturer has to give at least one year garantee of proper working).

Some other said the stand of the Samsung was a bit flimsy. Well ok, one has to consider the price and what you pay is what you get...

I had a talk to the man in the store and he said I would get the samsung definitely for 179,- EUR, which means it is really 50,-EUR away from the LG. In the other store where I asked for the LG, I saw that the seller had 206,77EUR on its calculator, which he had put aside, so I couldn't see it. He said "if I calculate very short you can get it for 219,-" does that mean, that the price the market buys it for is 206,-EUR and so that I would get really a display worth the price? Probably not, huh?

Well you are right, I have to decide wehter Hdmi or not. Thanks again!
