DDR400 or DDR500 for AMD
Forum Motherboard & Memory : Memory - DDR400 or DDR500 for AMD
I am thinking about getting this:
<A HREF="http://www.crucial.com/store/MPartspecs.Asp?mtbpoid=9B7BCEB4A5CA7304&WSMD=MS-6702+(K8T+Neo-FIS2R)&WSPN=CT12864Z40B" target="_new">DDR400</A>
or
<A HREF="http://www.crucial.com/ballistix/store/MPartspecs.Asp?mtbpoid=E6C12296A5CA7304&WSMD=MS-6702+(K8T+Neo-FIS2R)&WSPN=BL12864Z503" target="_new">DDR500</A>
I figure since the 939's (which I hope to migrate to in the next 6 months) has a 1000 Ghz, maybe pairing it up with the DDR500 might be better. In any event, I don't overclock, but I want something with a little more future potential to it. So my choice is one stick of either. Though there exists the possibility of 2 sticks of the regular Crucial DDR400 1 giggers.
What would you guys do?

Yes, but the SPD values are different, you have to manually set the Ballistix PC3200 to the slower values of the PC4000, 2.5-3-3-8, when you want PC4000 speed to be stable.

hell, a lot of these guys think they just need to increase the CPU voltage and sudenly everything will be clocked higher.

1) PC4000 (DDR500) is not officially endorsed by Jedec (unless in the form of DDR2). Therefore no motherboard that I know of allows you to use DDR500 without overclocking.
2) Dual channel mode effectivly doubles the memory bandwidth and will give a far bigger perforance boost than PC4000 would.
then I should go fo the DDR500 if I ever wish to move to dual core. according to those articles anyway.

Well a few % might be nice...
But as stated the ballistix is virtually the same in both flavors!

He was reffering to the anad's article that shows the new memory dividers for DDR433/466/500 while not Ocing the CPU.
Around 5% in multitasking scenarios...Not much but better than nothing. I'd rather OC 1:1 anyhow!

according to the article, it stated that with increasing numbers of dual cores (more than two) it is possible that this DDR500 could come into play.
In any event, I am buying two sticks of DDR400.

Wo! Hold on a second, are we suggesting that single channel DDR500 offers more performance than dual channel DDR400?
for the moment we are assuming one stick of each.
my current processor doesn't support dual channel (clawhammer) anway, but a move later to the 939 will.

Clawhammer came in both 939 and 754 versions I believe. It is my fault though, didnt read the post throughly enough and assumed ur system was 939 based.
It's a tough decision.
Difference between:
A: 2x 1024MB DDR-400 DC
B: 1x 1024MB DDR-500 SC
$120
Knowing which memory is perfect for your sysyem..
priceless.
okay, enough jokes.
I would orient my decision based on the type of programs I run. Games benefit more from the overclock, but professional application like to see standard settings for stability concerns.
If you want performance quit whining and buy the 1 stick of 1024MB DDR-500
But really.. both those modules are priced pretty high. If you do decide to go with 2x1024MB Crucial, you are better off buying Micron original. It's pretty much the same thing but cheaper.

can you point me to micron modules?
specificaly, a site that will claim to know what my system is garunteed to work with?
