I want to power a pair of studio monitors with my laptop, for video editing and other applications. The laptop is a Dell Inspiron E1720 with integrated audio (SigmaTel), and a 3.5mm stereo output.

Can I simply plug in a 3.5mm to twin TS female adapter, and then go straight to my studio monitors? Or will I need to put it through a pre-amp (mixer) first?

Thanks.
