I've got a reliable m105. I've fallen in love with the Zire 31 (the
72 is even better but too pricy).

I'm sure this is in some FAQ, and is probably the dumbest question,
but I assume my Palm Desktop will need to be upgraded when I buy the
new Zire 31, and then I'll be able to transfer all my data and SYNC
all my old stuff into my new Zire...right?

Please write an email saying, "yes, of course you dummy" to
dlcasey@go.com if this is true. I'll check back here if you'd rather
not email me.

Thanks for answering this (likely) inane question.

The only inane question, IMO, is the one not asked.

Usually yes;-) You might want to give attention to program that are
not supported on the Zire and could cause problems but Datebook,
Addresses should work fine.

Best is to go to Google, Groups and then search for "palm upgrade old
data". There is much sad about this.

If you know where you data directory lives on your computer you might
want to move the "backup" and "archive" directories to a safe place
and at first sync only the Calendar and Address book.
Then look at the other applications and try to understand if the Zire
supports them.
Have your registrations keys for the shareware apps ready....

best regards

Olaf

Hi DLC,

Paul from palmOne here. Yes, you can transfer/sync your previous data.
Olaf is correct about some third-party applications. The Zire 31 will
include many improvements and additions, so some applications and
peripherals that you used on your old handheld may no longer be
viable.

There are specific information and instructions on upgrading from a
previous device at http://kb.palmone.com/

Type the number 12926 into the Solution ID box and you will come to
the article, "Upgrading from a previous Palm OSĀ® handheld".

Best,

Paul
