c'maaan you can't challenge the knowledge of clairvoyant christopher, he's a psychic, have you ever heard of dionne warwick ? these people have special gifts for seeing information which is undisclosed to the normal individual.
guys.. even tho this is a similar and rebranded 9800gt as many said,
the price really diff u know, i live in MY and 9800gt cost 400 (512mb)(480 1gb),but u know how much this GTS 240 cost me ? only 280! and it beats
9800gt that is priced at 400, 280(1gb)-480(1gb) is a huge diff, plus i got the performance too.

BTW what brand of graphic card is ur ATI Radeon HD 4870?
I've dealt with many Dells including a dimension 2350 that still runs to this day. Just like any product ever made quality is a crapshoot. I will never buy a big box desktop again though. In fact many of the techies I know, including myself, swear by Dell laptops. Unfortunately my Inspirion 1520 has a crappy Foxconn motherboard and 8600m GT which amazingly has not failed yet, (knock on wood) oh well time to get a Studio XPS 16.

Thats right my graphics card is a ATI Radeon 4870 1GB and it works great! I just discover today that it comes with ATI Overdrive, where you can clock it higher.

I was lucky to get my Dell Studio XPS 435T on sale. And it's a great computer. The graphics card does run a little hot.
THG today has a review of the GT 210 and 220 cards - the ones that are supposedly just rebranded models that clair keeps referring to as OEM cards.
http://www.tomshardware.com/review [...] 45-18.html
The review states:
I'll first say that the new GeForce GT 220 and 210 represent class-leaders as far as power usage is concerned. They also add some new-to-Nvidia features, such as DirectX 10.1, enhanced video decode capabilities, and an integrated audio controller that can handle eight-channel LPCM audio over HDMI (from a discrete card).
Gee looks like they are not just rebranded cards.
And here are several different GT 220 cards for sale in retail versions.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] ion=gt+220
Gee I guess they are not just OEM cards either.

Yep gotta love Dell sales. My 1520 was 1500 but with discounts and a coupon I got it got 1000. Really can't complain. It still is a decent mobile workhorse.

This is one of the most ridiculous threads I've ever read, actually signed up just for this.
You're comparing cards intended for HTPC's / Low end market with a 4870 and then claiming that it's because the ATI is BETTER QUALITY?! Are you serious?
You then claim that in order to use such cards you would have to tweak in-game settings, so are you under the impression that most people play games on default every time?
You also claim that 'some of your games' require Dx11 in order to play, do you honestly know how many Dx11 games are currently released? One. Just the one.
With a whole one more by the end of the year in EU/US, woo and yay.
Rage over, didnt even bother mentioning how claiming another recent card is outdated compared to a 5850 is mind bendingy stupid. Owait.
what was the point in your post?
itadakimasu wrote : what was the point in your post?
Venting at someone who made a poor attempt at pretending they had some comprehension of what they were talking about, Mr Bleach fan.
oh and to the op.
Dell does not have the best perfomance by a long shot.
If the performance of your Dell XPS 435T - that you only purchased are few months ago - is so good, why are you already asking in a new thread started just two weeks after you started this one - on Oct 1 - whether you should now purchase an Alienware computer of build your own? You said this one would last you 4 years.
And why in a post on this thread on Oct. 12 - twelve days after starting the other - are you still ranting about how "it is a great computer". That would indicate you still think it is "the best" as stated in your thread title - but you never mention that you have already apparently outgrown the best - not in 4 years but in 2 weeks?
Or is all of this just a cover as you try to advertise your business - you boasted earlier in this thread about how it has gotten you new customers.
For those interested in following his self promotion - the other thread is:

Almost choked to death while drinking and reading this at the same time, couldn't even make up something that funny.
I might go and become a psychic advisor with a 'top of the line computer' so I can be as technically adept as this guy.
Meh, this guy's BS. I bet I have more experience than him, but that's not much considering a peanut knows more than him. Seriously, I'm not even in the middle of my teens but I find his explanation and non-existent defence have got more holes than swiss cheese and more loops than a rollercoaster.
1: The 4870 obviously beats the GT220 in performance, but not in quality; that depends on the ODM. My old DIY PC had a Celeron D CPU and a Chaintech FX5200, 8 years old and still running. A newer OEM PC my friend got had a Q6600 and a 8600GS. His PC failed pretty fast. One's a budget system, the other was meant for gaming. He beat mine in performance, but not in quality.
2: The GT220 was a test platform for NVidia to experiment with the 40nm process + new features, just like what ATI did with the 4770. NVidia chose the simple design of the GT220 to test it out, because any flaws could be easily corrected with a simple GPU design. Good thinking, rather than jumping straight into the high-end, complex GPUs to move into 40nm.
My current PC is an OEM from Compaq, reliable, but not-so-powerful and overpriced. Just to say STAY AWAY FROM PREBUILTS.

The Alienware computer will not only enhance his Clairvoyant abilities, but it will also allow Christopher to make contact with extra-terrestrial beings, therebye expanding his consciousness even further, into the outer layers of the universe.

Alienware, a rebadged dell with a little alien logo.
unfortunately its not out of this world anymore except in the price..
The were better when they were their own company until dell bought them. Saying that im sure thats the same case with Voodoo and HP.
It is a confusing topic though, it's easy to see how someone could get confused...but a Clairvoyant ??...that just shouldn't happen, step up your clairvoyancy sonny.
See, nVidia and ATI don't even make any video cards, or atleast most of them are made by a third-party manufacturer.
I don't quite understand this whole thing myself, and to me, it pisses me the eff off, because for example I was researching ATI 4870 cards myself...came to find out that some run FARRR more hot then others, like twice as hot, depending on which manufacturer...I think this was attributed to differences in the cooling system, though there may have been other factors as well, but the point is, IT WAS SUPPOSEDLY THE EXACT SAME MODEL OF CARD THE ATI 4870, so 2 models which to the average person appear to be the exact same model: are very different in reality, due to different manufacturers having made them.
That sht pisses me the F off, so now not only to you have to research which GPU you want, but then you have to do further research (time-consuming niggly research) to find out which 3rd party manufacturers are most desirable, run the coolest etc...
unbelievable this computer sht
It can hard to find discussions on which cards of a particular model run the coolest, hell most people haven't owned 2 of the same card by different manufacturers to be able to tell people.

actually thats no so true - when nvidia brought out the 8800 gtx - there were reference cards which at that time manufacturers put their own labeled box around - evga was one and when i was sold it there were many rebadgers then
rrockman wrote : Posts (and posters) like these are not moderated on these forums?
I too am surprised that they let posters such as clair continue to post glaring errors as I and others pointed out. But perhaps it is because we point out the errors so others are not lead astray and no real harm is done other than waisting everyones time. But still you would think they would have a limit to how many times they let a person keep posting the same wrong information.

Yeah nvidia made the origional batch of video cards to get them to reviewers and in the supply chain - theyre called rebadgers if you like.. this is to get the card out to people like evga to sell as they dont have the manufacturing ability to make them as quick as they come out... Asus make their own up, Gigabyte, Sparkle, PNY modify the origional design and make there own - enhance it if you like thats why some videocards with the same chip are faster than overs - overclocking tweeks for example.

Hellboy,
You know so much about graphics cards. You have such a vast knowledge about graghic cards.

That's very interesting!
Clair - what are you doing? Coming back here once a week to bump the thread by copying what someone wrote in an old post and typing an innocuous comment? Trying to keep the thread active for advertising purposes?
I am suprised you bother to come back after the other thread you started 2 weeks after this one to if you should buy alienware or build -and that after stating at the start of this one that the Dell should last you for four years. But I guess any charade to help your business right? Just keep fooling people into coming to your thread in hopes they become customers. Sad.

Geez Rocky, sounds like i got a fan... The only fan I want is the one that cools a n-force southbridge chip - never understood why that ran so hot compared to intels chipsets. I mean its not like the n-force 4 had to overclock is processor and you still couldnt touch it with out 3rd degree burns ( ok im exagerating )
If he was really clairvoyant, wouldn't he have known the discussion was going to turn into a feud, and not made his original post?

RockyJohn you need to get a life and maybe get laid. You're still trying to give me a hard time. I feel sorry for you. Something is wrong with you mentally.

I can't be clairvoyant when I'm typing on a internet site! People, places & things have to be present in order for my clairvoyance to work.
clairvoyant christopher wrote : RockyJohn you need to get a life and maybe get laid. You're still trying to give me a hard time. I feel sorry for you. Something is wrong with you mentally.
You did not dispute or respond to the concerns I raised about your bumping this thread which contains your free advertising, therefore it must be true. An let's see - your two new posts today occurred exactly one week after the last prior post - gee you bumped it again, 3 weeks in a row, again validating my concern that you are simply trying to get free advertising.
Instead you chose to make a very viscious and childish personal attack. It is easy to see who is the one with the issues.
And in your next post you state "I can't be clairvoyant when I'm typing on a internet site! People, places & things have to be present in order for my clairvoyance to work. " If this is true, how do you provide your "clairvoance services" over the internet to people who are not present? Now I am really confused. Uh oh, I left you an opening there for snappy comeback about my being confused - but my confusion is only about how your statement directly conflicts with the services you purport to offer.
I know this is not a forum for discussing charlatan practices but since you turned it into an free advertising source to profer your questionable services I think some counterpoint is appropriate.
Moderator - can we please get this thread closed please to avoid the continued use of this thread to advertise questionable services and prevent the OP from making more viscious and childish personal attacks?

I can tell that your jealous of my psychic gifts. And you can't believe how well my post has had a very high response rate. You're jealous of this as well.
IF YOU DON'T LIKE MY POST, THEN WHY RESPOND TO IT AT ALL! I'M NOT RESPONDING TO YOUR COMMENTS BECAUSE IT'S A WASTE OF MY TIME. YOU MAKE A CAREER OF HARRASING ME, MAKING UP LIES & SAYING THINGS THAT DON'T MAKE SENSE. And last but least I do phone consultations, not email psychic readings because they are not accurate at all. The company that I work with is a psychic internet company, which means that they do all advertising via the internet.
Guys..
Come on, if you lot want to fight go to Afghanistan and let of some steam there..
If not go and buy the new call of duty game and play it..
Really, you guys need to take a look at what you two are doing and take a chill.
You agree to disagree.
Clairyvoyant... I said about the personal attacks and you do another one...
Does it matter if he gets laid or not.. Thats not something i would expect to get from a Clairvoyant at all..
clairvoyants are supposed to be sympathetic, understanding and professional which in your comments you seem to have neither.. youve ranted wether some one is gay and now wether he has sex or not.. Why do you have such a hang up on this and bring this into the issue..
I side with rockyjohn on this one and your out of order if you dont mind me saying.
This is a computer forum for people with genuine issues and wanting genuine answers. Do this and get your answers - not to wind people up.
It is not here for personal attacks.
clairvoyant christopher wrote : I can tell that your jealous of my psychic gifts. .
Wrong. You have no gifts so I have nothing to be jealous of. To even assume I might be jealous proves you have no gifts. Just another petty attack.
clairvoyant christopher wrote : And you can't believe how well my post has had a very high response rate. You're jealous of this as well.
Just proves the two points I have been making all along - you are only using this forum to advertise yourself and your repeated bumps are for this same purpose.
clairvoyant christopher wrote : IF YOU DON'T LIKE MY POST, THEN WHY RESPOND TO IT AT ALL!
I choose not to sit by and watch this forum be misused for advertising - especially of charlatan practices. You are taking up the time of good people looking for help or trying to provide it. Further, I choose not to be a silent victim of your vicious personal abuse.
clairvoyant christopher wrote : I'M NOT RESPONDING TO YOUR COMMENTS BECAUSE IT'S A WASTE OF MY TIME.
Lie. You have been responding to my comments. Why state such an obvious lie?
clairvoyant christopher wrote : YOU MAKE A CAREER OF HARRASING ME, MAKING UP LIES & SAYING THINGS THAT DON'T MAKE SENSE.
And more bogus and viscious attacks. First, a few forum responses do not a career make. Second I have not been harrassing you but only pointing out to everyone your motives - confirmed by yourself in previous posts and the statement above - and defending myself from your abuse. Instead of making viscious and generalized personal attacks, I challenge you to identify one specific lie I made or one thing that does not make sense. Please back up your general attacks with a single specific case. It is easy to see who is the one telling lies here and it is not me.
It is also easy to see who is doing the harrassing here. Did I ever say anything to you like the abuse you threw at me with:
RockyJohn you need to get a life and maybe get laid. You're still trying to give me a hard time. I feel sorry for you. Something is wrong with you mentally.
And others in earlier posts have stated how your comments don't make sense and you don't even understand what you are talking about on video cards. You were just misleading people about that as well and I tried not to let your misleading comments lead others astray. The purpose of this forum is to provide accurate helpful information not to mislead with bogus attacks on the products of good companies.
clairvoyant christopher wrote : And last but least I do phone consultations, not email psychic readings because they are not accurate at all. The company that I work with is a psychic internet company, which means that they do all advertising via the internet.
The quote we were addressing was your statement "People, places & things have to be present in order for my clairvoyance to work." First off, clairvoyance does not ever work. Second, people on the phone are not "present".
Moderator, can we please get this thread closed to stop these continued bogus and viscious attacks.

I am surprised you once again admit that you are using this forum for personal gain even though it means abusing the time of the good people coming here seeking help or to give it.
clairvoyant christopher wrote : Everyone see what I have to go through with RockyJohn.
Wow another personal attack. This I am not surprised about.
When you last said that I was making up lies and saying things that don't make sense, I asked you to point out one specific example where I had done that. Of course you could not and so would not respond directly to the issue. Again instead of providing the least bit of support for your attack you choose to make another personal attack. This has been the case all along. I point out your errors and you repond not about the substance, you cannot because you are wrong, so you try to hide behind making bogus personal attacks.
Just like you have been doing from the start. Near the top of the thread, you made bogus statements about certain new video cards based on the nVidia reference design and you identified several articles that you claimed supported those statements. I read those articles and found no support. I asked simply asked, several times, that you specifically identify where the articles supported your claim. You could not and so would not respond to the request, instead you starting making personal attacks on me to hide you had no answer, just like you are doing now.
I hope readers can see that I have tried to address the bogus attacks made by Clair - first against certain nVidia cards and then to defend myself. Despite his personal attacks on me I have tried to stay focused on the issue and only ask Clair to prove his claims - first against nVidia and then against myself - but he refuses to address the issue because he has no support for his claims - instead he just responds with another personal attack to hide behind.

clairvoyant christopher wrote : because in the past I would respond over & over to his comments. But now I realize that RockyJohn feeds off me by responding to his ridiculous comments.
No, the problem. Clair, is that you never did respond to the legitimate questions I asked and instead made abusive attacks that I chose to defend myself against. It is just utter foolishness of you say to I feed off you. If you go back in look you will see that each time I was either asking you to provide specifc information to try to support your claims - all proved bogus by your inability and refusal to respond in substance rather than with the abusive personal attack - or responding to defend myself from your attack. The threads are clear - you were the abusive attacker keeping this going - with your attacks and returning once a weak to bump the thread and keep it active for commercial reasons. And you did not respond to the substantive issues - about the nVidia cards or your viscious attacks.
Just like this commment where all I am doing is responding to your attack. Or just like the last one, and ones before that where I was either responding to your attacks or repeated misuse of the forum.
And I did not once make the kind of derogatory personal comments like you made about me. So your attempt to play innocent does not wash. I am the victim here and you have been the abuser. And all the people who spent time reading and responding to your commercial thread are also your victims.
But I do thank you for your word not rto espond again which I take to mean the abuse will stop.

yeah mainly by two people arguing
Dell is ramping up performance with the Studio XPS 435.
Over the last several years, Dell has diversified its computer offerings in an attempt to better meet the needs of its customers. What started with Inspiron and XPS desktops is now Inspiron, Vostro, Studio, XPS, Studio XPS, and Alienware. Confusing? Maybe, but the increased number of brands has allowed for some powerful desktops whose looks are beyond the classic Dell cases.
The newest offering in the desktop market from Dell is the Studio XPS 435. The Core i7-based system does have some impressive options, although it is not yet for sale. Users can customize the 435 with Core i7 and Core i7 Extreme processors, which come on an X58 motherboard. What really separates this new offering from existing Studio XPS desktops are looks, memory, graphics, and storage. The 435 can take up to 24 GB of triple channel DDR3 memory as well as up to 4.5 terabytes of hard drive space. Compared to the 12 GB of RAM and 1.28 TB (640 x 2) of storage in existing offerings, this newest Studio XPS is a cut above other Dell desktops in its product line, offering more than enough storage and RAM for any Photoshop or Avid buff.
