Have just bought in Sydney a new EOS 500D which appears to be a USA version Rebel T1I.
We are running Windows Vista 64 bit.
Our card reader can't download images..had no trouble with a EOS 400D

We have gone to the Canon site & downloaded a driver..still no joy.
Any help much appreciated, as we hope to travel shortly, but
need to be able to download as we travel.

Sounds like you have corrupted files even though the pictures can be viewed thru the camera, your operating system can't read it.

Can you see the folder and files on your vista or you can't see the media all together?

Have you tried downloading the images from the camera itself?

If the images were not that important to you then you can just reformat the flash card otherwise you will need a photo recovery programs.

If your current Sd card is 4 Gig or larger and your old one in the 400D was a 2 Gig or smaller card it is a problem with your card reader not windows.
4 gig and larger SD or HCSD ( High capacity SD) card can not be read by older SD card readers. Your simply need to get a newwer card reader and all with be fine agian. if it was the same size card you have anouther problem all together.
