I am looking for a succesor to my current camera, the panasonic lumix DMC-TZ1. I am very happy with it except for two things. Its difficulty at tackling dark scenes and movement in moderately to badly lit conditions (sports in halls).
Now the 5th generation of this series, the DMC-TZ5, looks interesting again but its manual states its shutter speed in exactly the same way as back then. The problem is that the TZ1 only had a settable setting of 1/8 max and anything beyond that needed to be set by the automatic shutter mode in an annoying way. Can anybody who knows the TZ5 or has it tell me to what extent its shutter speed is manually settable and how it performs in badly lit conditions?

If it does not have a shorter manual shutterspeed can anybody tell me if the panasonic DMC-FZ8 is perhaps an option worthy of checking out or maybe recommend some other cameras?

TIA

This test ( http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/TZ1/TZ1A5.HTM ) say it can do down to 30 seconds using night mode.

DMC-FZ8 specs for shutter speed • Manual: 60-1/2000sec. • Starry Sky Mode: 15, 30, 60sec. http://www.dpreview.com/news/0701/ [...] nicfz8.asp

I use my wife’s Fuji F31fd because my DSLR is to big too carry around and these are some of the pictures I've took from it. I did not use any flash but sometimes it gets bright enough for me to takes those shots.

The F60fd ( has manual mode) and the F100fd are the new Fuji point and shoot. I'm not sure what the equivalent for Panasonic as the prices for Panasonic mostly higher than Fuji cameras. Maybe the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX150 or the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5.
