Canon introduced two new digital SLRs this week. One is a meaty update to its lower priced D30. The other pushes the bounds of DSLR technology to new limits. And then there's Nikon's cool newly announced D300.

there are a lot of errors in this review!!!!
Nikon D300 is not Full frame! and there is no canon D5 to compete with. You probably mean Canon 5D. also I think the Nikon D300 competes with Canon 40D (does the Canon D40 exist today?) and Nikon's own D2x.

Film is gone! Now both Canon and Nikon have full frame DSLRs that:
1) work seamlessly with existing lenses
2) have little or no recurring costs
3) take 200-300 shots before having to change digital film (memory card)
4) requires no lab processing (basically instant proofs and masters)
And these are excellent cameras that will basically surpass film in every way. So the question is: Why would any professional photographer still want to use 35mm film? I think the new Nikon D3 together with the existing Canon 1D line signals the end of an age.

Nikons D300 uses a DX APS sized sensor so not full frame - that is 12.21MP and should retail for approx $1800, its a full pro body with the same autofocus module as the new D3
Its the D3 that has the new FX designated full frame sensor at approx $5000 - which is 12MP - and as it has extra large photosites on the sensor - can shoot up to 25600 ISO!!! according to Nikon it also has a wider dynamic range than anything Canon or anyone else has produced to date. This toms hardware article was a bit too gungho on supporting canon - 2 days before the biggest DSLR announcement in Nikons history. This is great news for consumers - with Nikon very strongly competing with Canon in all aspects of the DSLR market now.
