Probably a long shot. I doubt there are many people who are dealing with
this situation but here goes.

I run a custom XP setup on all my systems with the IE core files removed
using an application called nLite from: http://nuhi.msfn.org/nlite.html
The lack of IE has never been an issue until I purchased a new Zire 72
yesterday. Hotsync works fine but I cannot run the Palm Desktop without
IE installed. By the way, it doesn't mention the IE requirement on the
box or in the PDA user guide. I only found out after the problem arose
and did some searching on the Palm support pages.

My previous version of Palm Desktop, the latest version available for
the Handspring Visor worked fine without IE. With the Zire clicking on
the Palm.exe icon launches FireFox 0.93 and all I get is a blank page.

From what I read on the Palm site I'll have to use the Desktop app.
which came with the Zire 72 for importing photos from the PDA among
other things.

So does anyone have any ideas on a workaround to this Internet Explorer
requirement?

TIA

And Palm, how about support for Mozilla Thunderbird? hint, hint

Sounds like an installer issue and not a Palm Desktop issue. Also sounds
like you may have removed more files in customizing your XP than
necessary.

You can use a USB reader-writer to move photos between the Zire and the
PC. Or one of the apps that makes the PC see the expansion card in your
Zire as a drive and write directly to it.

IE is now such an integral part of the OS that it's used for many
display purposes that don't "look" like a WWWeb browser. Why not
install it, but use a different browser when you are connected to the
internet?
