Hi All,

Building my first new system and have a questions about the HD.

Here's the setup:

ANTEC Life Style Series Black Case With 380W Power Supply, Model "SONATA" $99.00
AMD Athlon 64 2800+, 512KB L2 Cache, 64-bit Processor - Retail $185.00
MSI nForce3 250 Chipset Motherboard for AMD Athlon 64 Socket 754 CPU, Model "K8N Neo Platinum" (MS-7030) -RETAIL $130.00
GIGABYTE ATI RADEON 9600 PRO Video Card, 128MB DDR, 128-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP, Model "GV-R96P128DH" -RETAIL $129.99
Kingmax 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200 - OEM(x2) $164.00
Hitachi 160GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive, Model HDS722516VLSA80 Part# 13G0254, OEM Drive Only $98.50

Grand Total: $806.49

I've got this Hitachi drive listed now:
Hitachi 160GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive, Model HDS722516VLSA80 Part# 13G0254, OEM Drive Only $98.50

But have found this Hitachi drive:
Hitachi (IBM) 160GB UATA100 8MB Buffer Hard Drive - Retail Hard Drive Kit. $134.99 ($65.00 rebate, so $69.99 final price)

So which is the better hard drive to get? Any other recommendations on the system in general?

If someone could respond ASAP, that would be awesome. I just found the rebate today (www.outpost.com) and it ends today.

Thanks!
Jim

That perticular drive actually is THE drive to have these days no matter it is SATA or PATA (the chipar the betar, any body disagree, call my loyer;)

PS: my personal body would get Crucial mem infront of any other brand.
PSS: some body might help you more with vid card, but I think that 256bit card will be a better buy (even thought it will add 50-60 bux on top).

PSSS: almost forgot, for that kind of money I would get P4C 3Gz instead of sucket 754, but that's up to yer own heart's dezire.

..this is very useful and helpful place for information...

both drives are the same, except the interface connection. It will not matter either way. I am cheap so i would go with the ide drive. But if your a neat freak then spend the extra and get the sata drive.

Also what is this systems purpose? Gamming, multimedia ?

I personally would stick with amd. Better price to performance ratio.

If you do any "hardcore" gaming. then you will be disappointed with your video card. You may want to look at a 9700/9800 non pro (not SE!!!!!!). There about $150, and a quite large performance increase over the 9600 Pro.

Main System Specs
AMD Athlon64 3200
Asus K8V SE Deluxe
ATI Radeon 9800XT
Kingston Hyperx 1GB
SB Audigy
SATA150 TX2plus
WD740GD
Samsung 172X
