Does anyone know where I can find a:

128MB ATI Mobility Radeon™ X1400

or a

256MB NVidia GeForce Go 7600

I can't find either one....it's starting to really frustrate me, and ebay has been no help.

P.S. It's for an Alienware Area 51 m5550 because they didn't feel the need to tell anyone that it has insufficient cooling.

Ebay was my only choice. There was once a site called notebookcheck.net, but it seems to be down right now. The chances of finding one that actually fits in it are slim. Did you contact alienware?

Yeah, I've sat on the phone with them twice. Once to be told I was sol, and the next time that "Oh yeah, I can sell it to you. We're out of stock right now, call again in 2 weeks."

The part will likely be several hundred dollars. I don't suggest getting it - it's just too old.

Well, it would help if you have the part number of the part(s) you want. Calling Dell or Alienware with that part number will probably get you what you want, but the price, as previously noted, will be high.

Don't forget about using product search engines such as Google Products or Nextag. Ebay will probably be your best bet to get a low price-- looking for a busted laptop with parts you need is also a good strategy.

I've been on ebay, but nothing has come up in the last 2 weeks for it that would work. The Alienware customer service knew exactly what I was talking about but I was hoping for a faster route then calling them back in 2 weeks.

Know any good busted laptop sites?

The Ebay is the only source for servicable laptop parts

Does the card you are looking for run on an MXM slot? (ask Alienware about this if you don't know). If it does I may have a site for you to look at.

They don't have your card up on the site, but like they say on the page, send them an email with a request and they may be able to get you one.

Awesome. According to this I can upgrade my bios and make the easy to find 8600 work....that would save me a lot of grief.

Just be careful of the heat. If you said the laptop was having issues with heat with a lowly 7600, it may have issues with the 8600. Hope this works out for you.

I'll post how this experiment goes...
