samsung vm7000 laptop....

this is a friend's old laptop. there is a black screen, no video, computer boots up nicely in the background, i attach it to an external monitor plugged into the back and it works fine. so not the mobo or video card. definitely a problem with the lcd screen. sometimes i can see faint image. i imagine it's a problem with the backlight. how difficult is this to repair on one's own? anyone know a good online tutorial? parts place? anyone had top deal with this before?

All you have to do is google to find a new screen, perhaps on ebay, maybe even ask samsung. It's not hard, really, at all to replace an LCD screen, you just screw it in and plug it in, very gently. I've worked on a large number of notebooks though - notebooks aren't a place to start for hardware repair beginners.
