I am trying to find a laptop/notebook that covers a budget of about 1,000-2,000 dollars. I am hoping to get one that has a LCD type screen of at least 17 inches, I can go down to 15 but I would prefer 17 or up.

It will be used mainly for papers for school, but I would like to be able to play music on it, such as pandora and a couple of browser based games that I play, barely any graphics as they are text based. The option to play a dvd or download music and such would be nice as well so the memory space would have to be relatively decent. I know I can get an external hard drive as well but I would prefer if the laptop came with a decent amount in the first place.

I've been looking around at Dell since my school is offered a discount through them though I've been told you really only pay for the brand name, not the quality. I would not mind HP either. I live in the US and would like to own it for a few years minimum. Help?

The Dell Studio 17 could be a good option for you.

Thank you much, I take it there is enough memory and RAM on here to avoid having to get an external hard drive for awhile?

Well, you can get it configured with up to 640GB of hard drive space.
