Whats your thoughts on the 'EEE' kind of laptops?

I'm asking this since one person on this forum literally called me stupid for considering to buy one,I was wondering if you guys thought that they might be Overpriced and definitely not worth it?

Even tho you can get more performance for the same price as a regular laptop,I take that statement one more step and say that you can get more performance from a desktop computer for the same price as a regular laptop.

The key here is portability. The EEE's are smaller and lighter,and have some pretty decent battery times. Sure you cant edit videos on them or play Crysis,but you can take them just about anywhere and check stuff on the Web or type up a short paper (cramped keyboard on the smaller ones,tho appearently the new 10 inch ones have a much more comfortable keyboard). They are also known be able to use TV Tuners,so if you can pick up good stations off the air,they're pretty kewl watching TV on the go as well. Sure some of the smaller regular laptops can do this too,but they're still bigger and heavier.

One of the major drawbacks is lack of a DVD drive. But I suppose not having one saves on space and probably battery life. If I get an EEE,Ill probably get one of those external DVD drives that runs off of 2 USB ports for power (and also a USB TV tuner). The other drawback is storage space. But since no one will be installing programs and applications that use a lot of storage (generally the ones that need a lot of power that the EEE's dont have),I dont see it as a problem. Though I can see people putting videos on their drives.

The Bottom Line- You can hook it up to a regular monitor for a bigger screen. You can hook a regular keyboard and mouse to it for better input. You can even hook up a DVD drive to watch your favorite DVD movies on it. But you cant take those things away from a bigger laptop to make it as portable as the EEE style laptops.

BTW- I think TH should consider doing an article on their views of the EEE's

well,when you have a desktop that can almost play Crysis at highest settings (its is playable,but I need more FPS for better gameplay),performance isnt really a factor of a secondary PC
