Well i have worked with Win mobile 2003,5,6,6.1 and now 6.5 on my HTC TP2,well the difference between 6.1 and 6.5 isn't very much but 6.5 is better customized and more user friendly IMO and a little faster too.
About HD2,i disagree because i am waiting for more reviews, and i think except its size its a great device, the first capacitive win mobile + a great WVGA screen and powered by a fast Snapdragon CPU,so i think its a good device.

M$ 6.5 as an Operating System could be a negative if it can be compared to
a M$ 3.1 - Vista OS as John Herrman has. The comments on jherrman's
article lean toward your opinion.

...... in the dark and in bright sunlight: an article comparing visual quality under different lighting.

I have seen that article and in out doors the OLED ones lose to non-OLED models and in indoors OLED phones beat the other models.
Also OS is a matter of taste,i like WM because of unlimited customizations but some users don't like it :)

And here is a HD2 PREVIEW from gsmarena and they seem happy with it:

Well, it's not that everything in the mobile phones world revolves around the iPhone but we couldn't help but note that with HD2 HTC are the first manufacturer to outdo almost everything you'd find on the Apple's device.

It's ironic that it took the competition more than two years, twice the processor speed and twice the RAM to finally beat the UI styling and responsiveness of the iPhone. They still haven't got the hang of sunlight screen legibility, we admit. And the AppStore is miles ahead of any competing software distribution platform. But nonetheless, the HD2 is better, faster and stronger than the current golden standard of UI - the Apple iPhone.

HTC HD2 is the first in the long line of Windows Mobile smartphones to break the conservative tradition of using resistive display. But the HD2 does not stop at that. Its capacitive touchscreen is the biggest display ever put into a mobile phone.

It is a good article . They point to two deficiencies:

Multimedia - HD playback is still a no-go: page 3

We should not have long to wait... price guess: $650.00CAD ?
