Hi, this is my first message.

I have a problem that even the Fido tech guys can't figure out:

I have a 7 yr. old Nokia 3390. It works perfectly in Florida, Montreal, and Toronto---and used to work where I live (Bancroft, ON)--using the expanded network. As of Dec. 19th, 2008, my Fido phone works EVERYWHERE EXCEPT where I live in Bancroft.

I was told to find someone with a Fido phone and switch SIM cards. I did this with a friend who came up from Toronto to visit. Her newer SIM card worked in my old phone, and my older SIM card worked in her new Fido Sony Erikson phone.

So I don't understand why my own SIM card doesn't work in my own phone up here in Bancroft, but does everywhere else. I think that Fido has de-activated my "expanded network." There are 2 Rogers toawers up here in Bancroft. I have asked them to confirm that it is activated twice so far, and they've re-assured me it is activated. How can I be sure?

Bell rules up here and I could switch to Bell, except that Fido has the cheapest plan for rare users like me---I only use my phone for emergencies; I'm on the 10/30 plan. It's a month to month, no contract plan with long distance and roaming.

Can anyone figure out what's going on?

Can anyone name a very cheap program for people who hardly ever use their phone like me?

Thanks so much.
Julie
