O2 XDA II cradle charging "backwards"??

hi folks.
been using Q2 for over 2 years, bought a new battery last year, since the old 1200 mAh one "gave up life".
But this week this "new" battery also seemed to "give up life", so I bought a 3rd battery today. When I put the ppc onto its cradle, the charge of the half-full battery started to decrease!!! When I took out the charger adapter, it charged it normal (AND also the old (2nd) battery which I thought dead).
Now, what could be wrong with my original O2 pocket pc cradle??? can a cradle "discharge" instead of recharge a battery?? is this somehow remediable?? or do I have to buy a new cradle or just use the adapter??
