I've tried calling and I get what sounds like a teenage girl or young
womans voicemail and now an email has gone unreturned. I hope we
haven't lost our great ribbon mic guy.

I think that's a family member on the answering machine... which he
leaves on when he gets behind. Which isn't an uncommon occurence from
my own experience and from what I've heard from others who have sent
him stuff.

Even if that's not his number you haven't lost much. If you want a
"great" ribbon mic guy check out Clanence Kane of ENAK in Pittman, NJ
856-589-6186 or Wes Dooley of AEA in Pasadena, CA 626-798-9128
They're the only two "great" ribbon mic guys I know... and yes, I've
heard Sank's work.

I've had good luck with these guys http://www.silviaclassics.com/
And Darrin of http://www.bigdmc.com/ has been very helpful with freshly made
RCA parts etc.
Enak's work is pretty spot on...

No longer valid. He moved to Tucson:
Talking Dog Transducer Company
http://stephensank.com
336 East Fort Lowell, Suite 101
Tucson, AZ 85705
505-510-4951
He is now involved with a brand new microphone company called Cloud Microphones. The first on came out just last month and is called JRS-34. The JRS is in honor of Stephen's father, Jon R. Sank who passed away in the 1998. He was born in 1934 thus the name JRS-34. The Cloud JRS-34 is an RCA BX44 clone and runs around $1,200 for the passive unit or $1,500 for the one that uses phantom power to a built in mic pre to give it a higher outcome. Both mics appear to have a chrome bottom. I don't like that, brushed aluminum or black would be better, less glare and distraction. You can learn more at http://www.cloudmicrophones.com. I haven't heard one yet but I intend to make the 75 mile drive to Tucson to see if I can touch one.

Actually he has moved again, but still in Tucson, just to bigger quarters. Telephone is still the same:
