It really does depend on what you want to do with it.

I recently picked up the Ipaq rx1950 for$300CAD. Its actually been reviewed on the Tom's main site. Its a decent device, but there are a few short falls and thats why I am returning it.

Windows Mobile 5:
- uses a A LOT of memory

If you are getting a device now, 32MB of RAM just will not do with this new OS, and the New OS is whats gonna be standard. After the OS has loaded and all other progarms that are needed, you have only about 14MB to run with. Most of which you can eat through with Internet Explorer alone. Definetly look for something with 64MB or more if you can afford it.

I am currently upradging to the Dell Axim x51v:
- 624mhz CPU
- 64MB RAM
- 256MB ROM(Storage)
- 16MB Intel Graphics card
- 802.11b, bluetooth 1.2
- 640x480 16bit screen

If you are not a power user and are just gonna do the typical PDA stuff, i would definitely recomend the Ipaq, cause for the price it worked very well. But if you really like to use your electronics, i would suggest the Dell. I never wanted to buy a dell product, but the HP counterpart is way too expensive, and big.

I am in a very similar situation - looking for a good pda without phone, which finally seems to have the feautres I will actually use. My main requirements are : good wi fi and bluetooth (for skype), battery time, ease of operation(maintenance eg do I need ot reinstall all apps just for a core update), robustness of product, ease of syncro.

I have also been looking closely at the Dell Axim x51v. However it seems to have a number of problems with the bluetooth stack caused by the one shipped by microsoft, but that should be fixed soon. I am not in a rush so am waiting to see when this will be fixed as the Dell seems to be the best of the bunch so far, but you may need to by an extra battery too!
Check aximsite.com and forums for lots of info.

However it seems fujistsu siemens is about to release (a few months) a new competing pda with a better spec including wifi g. I am waiting to see - google other pda forums. So my advise is if you are in a rush: get the DELL. If not wait to see if the dell gets updates etc that resolve the current issues (in any case if you do plunge for the dell ensure the one you buy has the latest code) or also see what F. Siemens is going to give or has now!

I am not going for the dell just yet as I have a feeling I will kick myself for not waiting a bit longer.

NOTE: I also considered a palm but since they have now did an agreement with m$oft there is no point!

There are also a few good combo choices out there.

I recommend reading up on the PPC6700 and the Treo 700w.

Both seem very promising, with the ability to offer EVDO (broadband speed) on the network, not just in the coffee shop on WiFi.
