Just putting the finishing touches on my first build from scratch system. Had a question on
what to do first after it's built. Here are my options:

Do I first install...
OS, Boot disk that is for the hard drive, or Testing boot disks: PCCheck and TuffTest

..or first get into the bios and check all the settings, boot sequence, etc.,
then install one of the above?

Not sure if this is what you want to hear, but this is my usual order:

-tweak out bios (boot sequence, dma stuff, etc)
-fdisk and format, blah blah
-install os by using boot cd-rom/floppy
-install all appropriate drivers
-install needed programs
-stress-test the crap out of everything
-tweak all browser settings, general os setting, etc

It's all good ^_^

1. bootup and make sure everything works.
2. flash bios to latest and change settings to optimal.
3. stress test ram to make sure its all good.
4. diagnose ard drives, make sure they are working fine.
5. format drive from OS instillation CD, setting up base C: partition
6. install OS
7. get online, and download and install the latest service pack, security fixes, chipset drivers and all other drivers.
8. DO A BACKUP and call it "basic system state"
