Hi everyone,
I was just wondering... what third-party apps stay on your Palm device
for long periods of time without getting deleted?
For me, they're iSilo, MobileDB and Acrobat Reader for reading and
creating files, Golf and Klondike for games, and Invisible and Mirror,
even though I rarely use them.

Plucker! I can't beleive nobody else has mentioned it yet. That and
DateBk5 are probably the only ones I *really* use.

Recently my Zire 71 broke down (screen not responding any more) and I
had to sent it back to PalmOne for repair, so I am currently using my
"old" Vx. As it's for a short time (or so do I hope), I have loaded only
the minimal set of apps I use daily and couldn't live without, i.e. :
- Bob's Alarm
- iSilo (+ a few ebooks)
- HandyShopper
- RPN

Here's one called Sun Compass... a true Compass that doesn't use a GPS

Google "ishido". I haven't written the help yet.
Basically, it is a tile game. There are six patterns and six colors. Which
means 36 tiles, but there are two of each tile so there's 72 tiles in the
tilebag. The board is 12 x 8, so there are 96 squares. The catch is you have
to place tiles next to a tile that matches color or pattern. The first six
tiles are placed for you, one of each pattern and color. You place the rest,
and try to empty the tilebag. You get a bonus for emptying the bag (1000
pts), leaving 1 tile (500pts), or leaving 2 tiles (100pts).
Placing a tile next to one tile gets 1 point, next to two tiles (must match
one color, and one pattern) is 2 points, next to three tiles (must match two
colors and one pattern, or two patterns and one color) gets you 4 points.
Placing a tile in the middle of four tiles is a "four way" (matching two
colors and two patterns) and gets 8 points. If you make a 4-way all the
points double, which adds up if you set them up early.
Well, I guess I just wrote the help file. ;-)
It somewhat addicting, and you definitely get better with practice!
I writing a C# version for Windows. If C# does what they say, it may end up
as a web game, also.

I've a lot of apps in this category - however, that doesn't mean I
use them all - just that I don't delete them without a real need.
Anyone know of a tool that would somehow 'in the background'
monitor what apps are being used so that i could ask it the
question 'what apps have i not used in the past year?'

I've found some really good ones over the years:
PocketMoney - great financial tracking app. Best $30 I've ever spent.
Trip - mileage-tracking app. I drive a lot for my business, and it
took me a while to find a good app to track the miles. This is one
I'm sticking with.
Timesheet - good for recording time spent on consulting projects.
Nice piece of software.
QuickOffice - not that I use it all that often anymore, but it is good
to have a word-processor and spreadsheet when I need it.
PalmReader - works wonderfully with the free e-book downloads from
www.lib.ru. (there aren't quite so many good free e-books in English,
alas). I like that it's got automatic scrolling - I have a repetitive
stress injury in my hand, and pressing the down key over and over is
unpleasant.
Progect - good outliner, plus it's free.
There are also miscellaneous games, a Hebrew calendar, public transit
schedules - things like that. It's a well-packed Palm.
