I've tried searching Google for posts that could help me here. And I know
that've I've asked many questions about both of these units. But I'm having a
difficult time finding any direct information regarding the S2 Vs. 97. I've
been using a borrowed CLD-79 for some time now, which is essentially the same
as the CLD-D704 so I've gotten a good idea of LD picture quality and what a
"high-mid level" player looks like. I'm still looking at different units for
myself because this 79 will eventually need to be returned to it's rightful
owner. In any case, I'm still planing on buying an HDTV and I'll still planing
on using the player's composite outputs. I understand that the 704 has a
slightly sharper picture than the 97 and S2 but the other two units have a
lower noise floor, which is what I'm more concerned about. Moreover, I'll have
either one tweaked for better sharpness. I'm wondering about what differences,
if any, are apparent when comparing the S2 and 97. Any comments regarding the
two are welcomed and appreicated.

S2 and LD-V8000 has lowest noise levels for a single sided player and
the 97 for a dual sided player from the Pioneer US line.

AS I've stated in the other threads, if you are going with a digital TV
this may not matter. On my 530HD Pioneer The X9 looked better than a
97. On my Philips 34PW9818 CRT the 97 looked best.

I simply can't muster the extra cash for an X9 at the moment, and my HDTV
purchase is still a while off, I keep having to postpone it.

So the v8000 is better than a 704?
