Have you contacted the manufacturer for support? After all they made that
thing and should know how to work it.

You're better off with a generic infrared adaptor.

No problems with connectivity, Nokia PC suite will work fine, as will most
other progs, eg Logomanager, Oxygen.

Not sure what good a dongle will be with a 7250i as, as far as I know, it
doesn't connect to anything dongleish.

When I had a 7250i I tried using a non branded cable and it wouldn't work
for me either. Bought a proper Nokia one and all was well. Logic says that
there's not anything which can be done to a cable to make one sort work and
another not (other than cutting it, of course) yet, the proof was in the
connecting.

It's got IR, so an IR dongle would be a far cheaper (and easier) option than
fannying about with third party cables.

Because PC Suite doesn't like certain DKU-5 cloned cables. This has been a
problem since the very first clones appeared so you need to be sure of your
supplier if buying a clone, or pay a stupid amount for a genuine DKU-5. If
the phone has other connectivity options (IR, BT etc) I'd go that route
instead personally.

That would be the best suggestion, yes.

The main one is that PC-Suite is free. Oxygen is far more versatile but the
licensing is restrictive when compared to PC-Suite, the interface is still
very cluttered but it seems stable enough. It's all a question of if you
need the extra features Oxygen provides and if the cost is a worthwhile
investment for you.

1. ProLific PL-2303 isn't DKU-5 cable. DKU-5 cables are always and only
Nokia production.
2. You can use this cable only for data synchronization ( modem functions
doesn't work for this cable) with Oxygen Phone Manager II (
http://www.opm-2.com/ ). In our program in 'Tools' -> 'Options' ->
'Connection and common' -> 'Connection' -> 'Add port' you should set virtual
COM port from 'Control panel' -> 'System' -> 'Hardware' -> 'Device
manager' -> 'Ports COM and LPT' (it has 'ProLific USB to Serial bridge'
sign ). Set cable's type as 'DLR-3/DLR-3p'. Don't set 'DKU-5' option ( it
works only with Nokia original cables ).

Note: ProLific cables may not transfer correctly or transfer at all MMS,
JAVA, poly-tones and color images information. ProLific cable connection
voids your phone's warranty.

You can download the latest free trial of Oxygen Phone Manager II here:

http://www.opm-2.com/download/opm2.zip

If you have any questions and/or suggestions, concerning our
program, feel free to post them on our official forum

If it's any help, I had the same problem with a Prolific DKU-5 cable
and a Nokia 6100.

Win XP and Nokia Data Suite wouldn't see the phone, so I did an
uninstall, a reinstall and got XP to set up the phone/modem manually.

To my great surprise it worked!

I haven't reinstalled datasuite as I don't need it.

Just my 2c's worth.

Richard.

I have had similar problems with DKU-5 / Nokia 6100 / SOny Vaio
notebook. Took couple days of trying to load/unload all settings and
finally I read all info on Nokia's website and installation guide.
Problem was solved immediately if one follows the instructions
correctly in sequence:
Do not connect DKU-5 first
Load Cable driver
Load Modem driver
Re-start PC
Connect DKU-5
It is recognized and installs correctly
Re-start PC
Then load Nokia Suite software

It should work fine.
