Can anyone tell me the steps to use to create a hue/saturation layer using a
color that isn't on the normal hue or saturation sliders, using Photoshop
Elements 3? I am colorizing an old B&W photo, using a technique from pp
222-223 of Photoshop Elements 3 Book for Digital Photographers, which was
also presented at a PS3 seminar sponsored by Adobe.

Rather than painting in individual colors, which is the technique most books
present, the process Adobe presented uses Hue/Saturation layers for each
color in the photo. In a nutshell, the process is: create a new layer
(hue/saturation); Check "colorize" and use slider to approximate desired
color (this gives the entire photo an overlay of the selected color); make
foreground color black and use Alt-Backspace to fill the layer mask with
black (which removes the selected color); change the foreground color to
white and paint in the desired color areas.

This process avoids many of the problems of using a brush to directly paint
individual colors into layers, but there is one problem -- there are a
couple of colors needed in the photo that I can't select in the
hue/saturation sliders (e.g., fleshtones, gold jewelry). Although I have
been able to select colors from other photos to use with a brush if I paint
in colors on a layer, I have not been able to figure out how to import a
special color and have it become the hue/saturation selection. Any
suggestions?
