I just purchased the HP cd writer & dvd combo 9900ci (12x). It is suppose to take 5 min to write a 74 min audio cd, but it takes me 30 min for a 45 min cd (even at a 12x speed set)! I don't know if it is because I have a pentium II 400MHz processor or what. Any suggestions?

Is your media (blank CDs) rated for 12x?

Are you using CD-R/W media?

If you are writing to a CD-R/W disk that has previously been written then erased, the MAX speed you can burn is 4X.

why you purchase HP i think this combo drive is not sucessful but ucan try nero 5.5 or easy cd creator platinum
send ur complete specs. about ur system.
