Hi,

I am about to get an LG LX5550, and would like to pursue data connectivity,
but think the $60-$70 that Alltel or LG asks for a cable and some software
seems exorbitant. Here are my goals:

1. Download a few ringtones from a place like www.pimptel.com and download
them to my phone directly via USB connection (PC). Am I correct in assuming
that this would be a no-cost procedure?

2. Enter Contact data using software on my PC, then download to phone via
USB. Do I need to buy LG's proprietary software to do this, or are there
free or lower cost applications which will accomplish this?

3. Occasionally when on the road with my wife, I'd like to use my cell
phone as a modem, and access my regular ISP (I have an account with multiple
nation-wide numbers), to check email, surf a bit, etc.

I assume I'll need:

1. a cable to plug into my phone on one end, and USB port on my PC on the
other - I see 3rd party connectors sold, theoretically fully compatible, but
don't know if this is hype or reality.

2. some type of desktop software

3. USB driver so my PC will recognize my phone as a drive, and allow me to
download to it

Lastly, my wife has an Audiovox 8910. I imagine I'd need a different
physical cable, but it would be convenient if I could use the same software
to accomplish the same things with her phone.

Any specific advice and recommendations, or corrections to any of the above,
greatly appreciated.

(I've cross-posted to a few relevant forums, as there doesn't seem to be a
huge traffic in any one of them, and there are no LG specific US forums.)
