well im not shure where this would realy go, so im putting it in here, because it deals primarly with networking/network security.

i work for a small company(20 computers if even), and my supervisor wants me to come up with an AUP(Acceptable Use Policy). Now I've never written one of these befor so I was wondering if I could get some help on the topic. now for all of you who dont know what an AUP is, it like an Internet Terms of Uses policy that most companies and schools have you sign befor your alloud to use their computers and what not, but on a much larger scale(like everything my sorry arse has to manage... phone systems, network, computers, get the picture?) If anyone works at a place where you have one of these, can you please help me. It'd be great if you could like post a copy or a link to a copy of the AUP, or if you have any ideas of what all should be included that'd be realy great. As allways thanks for your time and help and sorry about my spelling.

If you have someone in HR, you should really sit down with them and discuss it because you're dealing with legal matters now.

here's a college's AUP

<A HREF="http://cc.uoregon.edu/policy/acceptable_use.html" target="_new">link</A>

You'll want to cover that the computers are company property and data stored on the computers is owned by the company.

The computers are strictly for business use and not personal.

Any personal information lost/stolen/given away by use of a company computer is not the fault of the company.

users are not allowed to surf, view, listen, etc. anything that could cause offense to coworkers, such as porn, sexually explicit stuff, pictures.

another big one is not allowing stream video because it hogs limited bandwidth.

stress computers are strictly company property and any intelluctual information/property is the company's.

if an employee leaves and wants to take data off the computer, it's up to their manager/boss to decide if they'll give it up.

I don't know much about it, but I saw this posted in a newsletter I receive, so I saved it. Your question reminded me I had it, so I looked it up.

Hope this is useful. Let me know how you like it, if you use it, etc. so I can tell whether to refer to it if/when I need it.

ooo HR whats that??? ok well I know what Human Reasoures are, but ummm they've got an even small budget then IT's budget of $000, and thats cuz we dont have a HR, but I understand what your sayin Riser, talk to someone who knows the legal stuff for the company.

thanks both of you guys for the links, they look like they should be very good. I just went took a quick look over. Fishmahn, your clickly, has got lots of clicklies in it, so it ought to have what im needin. Now if you'll excuse me gentlemen i must go get my digital chainsaw and glue, so i can hack and paste an AUP together.

well heres what i've got so far, and i know im missing some things, so can you tell me what i still need for acceptable and unacceptable usages?

Acceptable Usage
· E-mail
· Company phones

Unacceptable Usage
· Downloading, installing, and/or running of malicious or malignant files or programs.
· Engaging in unauthorized access of computers, including 'hacking.'
· Inappropriate use of equipment, including, but not limited to: phones, computer hardware and software, network devices,
· Access, retrieval, and sending of text and/or graphics that are outside the generally accepted boundaries of acceptable standards, good taste and ethics.
· Use of company computers to watch streaming video.

i cant forbid IRCs and personal e-mail, the bosses use it, and i like getting paid.
