Hello,

I have two PCs connected to the net through Belkin wired router and have file sharing between the two (Microsoft Home Networking). When I transfer a large file the CPU usage reaches almost 100% and it's difficult to do anything else. My primary PC is connected via the onboard LAN on Abit NF7-S motherboard and I have tried a PCI NIC with no noticable difference. Is this Normal? Can I do something to reduce the CPU usage? Should I use 3rd party programs to transfer files between my PC and cancell file sharing on Win XP? any suggestion would be grately appreciated. Thnks.

Disable your antivirus while transfering. High CPU usuage like that results in "On-Access Scanning" meaning that every file you transfer, you're scanning.

Try that and see if it helps. Disabling antivirus during installs of standard software (Microsoft Office, Games, accessories, etc), or otherwise 'safe' software, will increase install times too.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give it a try.
