Hope someone can help me with an annoying prob.

I've got an IPAQ 1945 Pocket PC with bluetooth and a desktop running
Win XP Pro with a bluetooth dongle. I can ActiveSync via bluetooth and
I can transfer files via bluetooth, but this physically copies the
files from desktop to Ipaq.

What I want to do is stream files from my desktop to Ipaq so I can
listen to and watch the large store of music/vids on my desktop's HDD
on the Ipaq via bluetooth.

I've set up network access via bluetooth on Ipaq, but I cannot stream
files, only copy them.

In very gentle, simple, one syllable steps, how can I get streaming to
work?

I know nothing of networks of IP addresses, so please very very simple
answers & please talk me through it from the very start to the very
end!!!

I have a Ipaq 1945 & am running Win XP Pro on desktop

Many thanks in advance!

I have a Palm T3 so I may not be able to help you with step by step
instructions but I had a couple of thoughts.

First can you set up a share on the desktop that the Ipaq can see? In
otherwords does the Ipaq support shared file systems? You may need an
additional application to get this capability. Second, can the Windows Media
player on the Ipaq see any of these music files on your PC? I would think
that the player application needs to be network capable in order to stream
files across the BT network connection.

When you say you have set up a network connection between the Ipaq and the
desktop what does that mean? Can you access the desktop's Internet
connection or do you simply get notification that a network connection has
been made? It sure sounds to me like you need to enable sharing between the
Ipaq and the desktop. That would be where I would start. You might, for
example, see if you can open a Word document that is on the desktop from the
Ipaq.

Cheers
TC

There are two types of connections LAP and PAN.

LAP connections are older (in Widcomm timeline) and basically are a
passthrough to allow access to IP services/servers. For this to work you
need the help of a DHCP server, since this connection is basically a PPP
connection. ICS on Windows provides this, or Bridge if an external DHCP
server is available. The other type is PAN and is actually a network
connection, you can have DHCP or manually configure the connection on the
client device (IP, DNS, etc).

In the first case you use the transport only, in the second case you can log
into a network. You have to find which one is best suited for your needs,
and use a little kwnoledge of your own network to configure the devices
correctly.
