Can anybody tell me how to get Windows 2000 to work with Mac OS 8 ? I have added the AppleTalk protocol in network adapter settings for 2000 and the IP addresses are correct.
Thanks for the help.

I don't have a win2k machine at my house right now to verify these steps but it is something like this. There is one more step you have to take to get a mac to see your share after appletalk is enabled :)
Rightclick on mycomputer, go to manage
go to shared folders
right click on shares and choose new file share
browse to/select the file you want to share
put in a share name/desc
there should be a checkbox called "apple macintosh", check it
then there might be another next or 2 and then finish

(I have only done this in 2k server, it might/might not be the same for the regular 2k. it should be close though)

Thanks for trying to help but I didn't see any checkbox called "apple macintosh". I guess Windows 2000 Server is different from Windows 2000 Professional edition in that way. Anyway thanks again.

Glad you could help again but I could not get it too work even though I followed every step in the link you gave me. I think it is something to do with the Mac's OS; it's probably just too old. It is most likely setup correctly on Windows now though.

P.S. Very nice computers.

The oldest I've delt with is OS 8.6 and I know it worked on that (from server2k at least). Anything lower I have no idea.

I have got OS 8.1 on my Mac. It could also be the computer hardware is too old. The specs of it are:
One Western Digital 2GB HD
One Maxtor 200MB HD
200MH processor
Twin Turbo video card
32MB memory chunk
Note: I am not sure of these specs because the computer is from eBay and I do not no that much about Mac's.

P.S.
My brother is a network engineer and not even he could get it too work.

lol, I think it is almost time to round file that sucker :)
The network card probably has too old of specs to work on a newer network.

I don't care to upgrade it (except maybe the network card) because it's not a main computer, just a records keeping computer. So I use a custom built pc which has:
One 512MB DDR 400 memory chunk
AMD Athlon XP 2200 processor
Abit NF7-S2 motherboard
ATI All-In-Wonder 9600 128MB XT video card
Creative Sound Blaster 128 sound card
One Memorex 52x24x52 CDRW Drive
One Pioneer 16x DVD Drive
D-Link network card which is pretty new although I don't no the model number.

Not that fast but fast enough for me.
