I have not been able to get video from on a laptop to display on either
of our LCD projectors (2 different models). I can hook a VCR or a DVD
player to the projector and videos display fine but when played from a
laptop (I've tried two different laptops) there is just a blank screen
inside the Windows Media Player window (I can hear sound). The cable I
am using plugs into the RGB port in the laptop and to the RGB port on
the projector.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

RGB-out? That doesn't sound too good here. What laptops are you using
and what sort of ports? (there can be VGA-out, S-Video-out, DVI-out).
Also, your laptop must have some key that enables the external display
(eg Fn+F7 on IBMs), maybe that is off by default.

You can only view movies on either the laptop's LCD _or_ the projector, not
both at the same time.

Use whatever method your laptop provides to select the projector as the
primary display.

What specific laptop are you using? The basic procedure is to either set
the projector as the primary display or set the overlay to display on the
secondary, but the details depend on the specific video chip you're
using--the procedures for ATI are different from the procedures for nvidia
which are different from the procedures for s3, etc.

Use the laptop's external VGA port, not it's video port, and configure
the display for simultaneous use in "theatre" and "clone" modes. It may
take some (or a lot of) experimentation to find the right settings.

That's not necessarily true (that "You can only view movies on either
the laptop's LCD _or_ the projector, not both at the same time." ),
although it may be true on some specific models. I have several Toshiba
laptops and can use both at the same time. But it depends on the video
circuits and chips of the laptop in question.

And the drivers. A friend of mine has an Emachines M6811. When she tries
to go into overlay using the factory-installed XP Home all the overlay
settings are grayed out. On mine, with a ground up installation of XP Pro,
and the Omega drivers, the overlay settings work fine. Tried the Omegas on
hers and there was no improvement--I've never had time to dink with it on
hers and I don't feel like reinstalling the factory Windows on mine just to
resolve that problem.

Thanks for that Barry, I thought it was due to copy protection.

Thanks. I toggled the laptop so that the display only shows on the
projection screen and the video shows fine.
