Hello,

I'm examining notebook possibilities for doing 3D animation
(specifically Alias' Maya). I was wondering if anyone had information
on the elusive "mobile workstation". First off, I've only found a very
few companies that make notebooks with high-end OpenGL video - e.g. ATI
FireGL, Nvidia Quadro. Dell, Fujitsu, HP, all seem to have roughly
equivalent offerings. Does anyone know why they only offer mobile
workstations with a) the Pentium M (as opposed to the Pentium 4 or
Athlon 64) and b) 15" screens (as opposed to 17" )? How is the Pentium
M for 3D work, such as rendering? Does anyone have other
recommendations? I'm also looking into Boxx and Alienware, both of
whom also offer mobile workstations.

Beware some of the "Gamer Laptops" that focus more on DirectX performance
and not Open GL. That said, I would like to see a comparison of some of the
latest generation PCI Express cards such as the nVidia GeForce Go 6800 with
the FireGL and Quadro cards. If they would work, it opens up a lot more
options, for example, Sager, Velocity Micro and Acer have machines with the
GeForce Go 6800.
