You need to learn the difference between a web board and a usenet news
group. This is a news group. It is *not* a web board of any sort.
If you thought it was you are mistaken.

Get a life. What difference does it make? Do you have an answer to the
question or not?

And this upsets you so....
Newsgroup, message board, forum, web-board, no matter what you call them are
basically the same thing.

....and this is 2005. Many people access this group via different web
based forums like Cellphoneforums.net, etc. While I don't particularly
care for forums that leech USENET feeds, it does seem to be the
current norm.

See above...

actually if you go to Cellphoneforums.net, alt.cellular.cingular is plainly
identified as a newsgroup and not part of the forums. It is just a hook to
the newsgroup, using a forum interface (which labels it as a forum because
the forum program and/or developer is stupid), much like google. But
anyway, forums and newsgroups are similar only in that exchange of
information happens. The worst thing to happen to UseNet was when the
people on AOL chat found the groups. The signal to noise ratio really
suffered then. I don't disagree with anything I quoted above, just wanted
to add that the forum mentioned does have a strong notice about it being a
newsgroup and not a forum, per se. So there is a difference and those in
the thread who state otherwise are deluded.
