Samsung X427M vs Motorola V180

I currently have a Nokia 3595, but my wife killed her's a while back,
and she really wants a flip phone, and so do I. So I am looking at the
Samsung X427M and teh Motorola V180 as they are both listed as free
online through Cingular for an upgrade from my current phone(s). My
main concern is signal strength. I drive through some rural areas on
my way to work, and currently I have pretty good reception with my
nokia, with only one spot where there is a large enough dip that I have
a hard time hearing someone I talk to, but for the most part it is OK
now that Cingular has rolled out so many GSM towers in North GA. I
might even go for a phone that costs a little $$ if these two are
inadequate. I really like the Motorola's LCD screen that shows the
callerid when closed, and it's battery life, but I heard that the
Samsung gets better reception. Just thought I would as some of you.

I've had tons of the Samsungs come back for the exact same reason. The top
is rather flimsy. The Samsungs tend to have problems with the earspeaker as
well. People can hear you but you can't hear them.

The Moto V180 is free after rebate in our market (South Texas) and is a much
nicer/sturdier phone.

Do you know the timing of this change to the v180? And will it be a new
model number?

The new improved V180 should be out in 2-3 weeks. It will not have a new
model number and the fix for this problem should be invisible to the
consumer (cushioning material is being placed internally behind the screen).

V186 is the same thing but with EDGE technology for higher speed internet
usage.
