Trying to find the right video card, suggestions welcome!
Forum Graphic & Displays : Graphics Cards - Trying to find the right video card, suggestions welcome!
Recently got a Compaq Presario, Model # SR5710F. It has 3 gigs of Ram, AMD Athlon Dual Core 4450e 2.3GHz, with Windows Vista Home. Not sure what the model number is on the Mobo. It has a built in Nvidia Geforce 6150SE nForce 430 with 128 MBs of dedicated RAM. I'm looking to add another Gig of RAM and add a video card. It has one PCI Express x16 slot. Not sure if it's 2.0 though. I'm looking to add either this computer on the cheap end --

Or this one on the high end --

I'm trying to keep it around 100 bucks if possible. Are these compatible with my Mobo? Which would be best? Or if you can suggest a different one it'd be much appreciated! ^_^
what is your actual budget? but if you're looking for 4850 i think 1GB version will be enough. i think buying 2GB version of 4850 is wasting money. you can try looking into this card. 1GB version:

You have a 220 watt PSU. I advise getting a PSU before getting a new GPU.

Oh, I have another computer I can use for parts. It's my old gaming system, but the video card in that is dated. Going to be taking the HDs and Power supply from it, and sell the rest to my friend cheap.

I want to keep it below 200, don't see the point in putting more into a system than what I initially paid for it.

What brand and model is the other PSU?
That will help determine which card to suggest.
Oh, and what resolution is your monitor?

No idea what the model or brand the power supply is, and it's late and I'm too lazy to go open the case and look. And I'll be using my tv as a monitor. 46 inch samsung lcd with 1080p. Not looking for the ultimate gaming pc, just something that will have very nice crisp graphics. I mostly play Steam games and MMOs.
HIS HD 4850 512 MB - $109.99 (Comes with Stormrise)

Looks like the best fit for your budget.
Though I noticed you linked to a $154 card. If your budget reaches that high, I recommend the HD 5750 instead.

More suggestions? Sorry, I'm agonizing over this! Always been that way when I'm upgrading. Just want the best bang for my buck!
After much delibertaion and discussion I'm looking to get this card. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814102855
Did I do go? Is this perfect for my system or should I go high/lower?
If you don't intend to upgrade your PSU, that is an excellent choice. I would have suggested if if you planned to keep your current PSU.
Again though, I must implore you to consider a PSU upgrade as well for the sake of your whole system.
I recommend the following provided it fits your case:
Corsair CMPSU-450VX 450W - $44.99 after rebate ($654.99 before rebate).
